This was a 3 hour psychedelic techno journey on their new(ish) open air floor, The Tunnel, Saturday from 3-6pm. Sisyphos, Berlin | Tunnel [9 July 2022] <psytech> {3h}

Better late than never - here's my recording for the October Habitat last year! This was a closing psytech (with a little dark prog at the end) set 3-5am after @lewis-music-sa. Having opened for him earlier in the year at Echo (https://soundcloud.com/deacon_za/echo-valley-of-dreams-sat-night-26-march-2022) it was nice to flip things around and it allowed me to dive into the darker side of my collection. Taking over from his high energy sound was a fun challenge. It was also one of the biggest (and best crowds) I've played to - which all resulted in probably my favourite psychedelic techno progression thus far. Hope you guys enjoy it!

What a great journey in the land of the Mystic Creatures.

Far out in the woods, surrounded by a beautiful massive lake, on a mystic island, there was a festival where we got lost in time.

Every fairytale story has an end and I had the honor to play the closing DJ set for the first Mystic Creatures festival (Creatures Corner stage with live sampling and live Aerophone) @mystic-tales-berlin

Far away from my typical music stores I’m very happy to share this powerful dance set with you.

That was just a blast.. surrounded by such beautiful dancers, I could play on one of my favorite sound systems and celebrate my nine years anniversary with my wonderful girlfriend in the company of my dear friend Andy Snatch who supported me again with some wise words on the mic.

It's not 100% live recorded because of some technical problems with the mic.

Cosmovision - Jungle Edition

Continuing on with the re-recordings, here's my set from Pangea 2023! This has been hands down my most talked about set and the most people asking me if there is a recording. Unfortunately, the recordings went missing so I had to attempt to re-create this crazy morning - something I didn't think possible which is why it's taken so long to get up... But, I decided it's time! This was such an epic set to play - closing the mighty Pangea Canyon on the Friday night, 3-5am, after @delamoonmusic rinsed it for the previous 3h! I set the goal to drop a bpm or two on every track, and so this starts out around 125bpm and ends at 104 - something pretty different and I couldn't believe how well it worked / how much of the crowd stayed till the very end (pretty much all of them - thank you legends for dancing and sharing your energy with me <3). Was also quite full circle playing after Dela as we had met on our travels a couple months earlier and Pangea booked us to play next to each other without realising :)

Pangea Festival ~ The Canyon | Closing [21 Oct 2023] <psytech/downtempo>

So, what started out as a bit of a joke resulted in this set! I had already been booked to curate the Sunday at Root Fest last year, but Mr. Zazoo (aka @connor-moolman-242064641) asked me to also play as a part of his Melodic Movement takeover on the Friday night and since the promoter didn't want the same name twice on the timetable I joked to put my name backwards... Little did I know this was done and the next day I see "Nocaed" on the artist announcement 🥲

Since this was a night, peak time set I decided to do something new and play a little harder/faster than I usually do - focusing primarily on the more Dark Prog / Zenonesque side of my collection (130-140bpm) - something I rarely get an opportunity to do on a festival stage. What resulted was a mix of a couple newer tracks, but mainly a ton of older tracks that I've been wanting to play for a dancefloor for a very long time... And woah - what a fun night/experience this was! As much as I have a deep passion for downtempo/slower grooving, this is the music that made me start the Deacon alias and is my original love. I hope you enjoy the progression!

What an experience! On an island shrouded in mist this stage was really actually a witches village, with mystic creatures lurking at every corner, not to say on the dancefloor. And a gigantic witches cauldron boiling in the middle of the dancefloor. I mean; could it exist a more perfect space for me to share my witchy sound!  💜🦉🐾🍄🌚🔥🔮🧙🏼🧚‍♂️💖

I am very grateful to have been invited to come and play my downtempo style at this beautiful gathering. It was the first time I played many of my new and unreleased tracks, and it was truly touching to feel the entusiasme, energy and togetherness from all of you. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
So many smiles, hearts, moments of going deep, moments of flying high, so many magical moments.

Witchy Tribal Downtempo & PsyChill Set - Creatures Corner -Mystic Creatures Festival 2025

Driven by a passion for discovering music; deacon has built a formidable collection spanning from downtempo through psychedelic techno to a deep progressive all containing a homogeneous groovy energy and impeccable sound design. Currently signed to @techgnosisrecords, he carefully selects tracks to create an eccentric narrative tailored to each event and lineup with one purpose: to introduce new sounds that bridge division and bring connection through sound and movement.

Full bio:
Driven foremost by a passion for discovering new music; Matthew Deacon has built a treasure chest of audible gold and has been sharing these gems with dancefloors for over a decade now.

A varying palate for sound led to the discovery of psychedelic techno in 2017 and prompted a rebrand under his namesake with a more focused sound. Hooked by the layers, depth, vast variety of sounds and intrinsic musical nature the genre presented led to the emergence of the soundscape we know as Deacon.

As time progressed he started discovering more music, artists and labels representing these similar characteristics; at a higher tempo there was deep/dark progressive, a lighter side of Zenonesque, and slowing things down with a reinterpretation of downtempo, akin to pitched down techno. And whilst these can be considered three distinct genres, they all hold a similar energy; with deep basslines, organic elements and impeccable production, and Deacon enjoys navigating between them. Carefully selecting tracks to create an eccentric narrative tailored to the event and lineup with one purpose: to bridge division and bring connection through sound and movement.
