Muon - A Canopy Of Memories (Free)

This is my take on the classic and unreleased tune Consciousness from Bukem and Flytronix.  Thanks to Luke Createur and the Atmospheric Drum & Bass Revival FB group for sourcing the samples and providing a platform for great music.  Also, huge props to both Danny's for the original production and continued musical inspiration!

BLINDED; a series that takes a look at some of the names, sounds and minds of various DJs within the uk underground dance music scene - a scene that is rapidly evolving; it is these electronic laboratories that have become the stomping ground for these wild scientists of sound. 

So we decided to document these experiments, and the scientists behind them.

For the first episode, VXRGO invited us to Tottenham for her residency show at Mode London.

BLINDED - VXRGO

Codename: RCRDS are proud to present a new trilogy of various artist releases, focussing once again on the broken breaks of jungle and 160 riddims. 

Broken Lands EP commences with Neekeetone’s incredible ‘Murderer’, where a gorgeous evolving intro gives way to warped basslines and the artist’s ever-engaging drum work.  The EP continues with the superbly talented Wez Walker making a first appearance on the label, showing deft skill at turning his hand to jungle sounds on ‘Under The Surface’, with creative choppage and mangled bass finding homes alongside classic vocal samples for a track which has been picking up lots of dancefloor action at our Codename: Amen events.

Bristol’s Eminence contributes her first solo track to the label with the rolling ‘Mix It Up’, which contrasts hypnotic rhythms and rolling breaks with more introspective stripped back moments and intricate drum edits.  The EP closes on a high with Cold Leader’s ‘Play It’, an early hour’s brain-mangling gem full of old skool b-boy attitude which contrast with classic V era stylings.

Originally released in 1996 as a Japan exclusive, the Full Metal Jacket compilation includes some of the biggest and most recognisable Metalheadz tracks.

The album includes previously remastered tracks from the likes of Doc Scott, J Majik, Dillinja and Alex Reece but also fresh remasters from Rufige Kru, Source Direct, Hidden Agenda, Lemon D, Peshay and more, which see the light of day for the first time.

Rufige Kru - Dark Metal (2017 Remaster)

Criterion Records present four unique takes on Amen manipulation. From the cosmic chops of Tactical Aspect to the frenetic edits of ADM, the rolling drums of Polarity and the devastating power of Furious And Paragon each track has its own individual character.

Fuelling the storm of Amens are familiar vocal samples from the ghosts of jungle, waves of rich atmospherics and layers of FX that aid each song to weave their own story.

Reference points range from the early ethereal sounds of 1993 to the dark intense tones of 1997 and beyond. At times celestial at others relentless this EP has something for every Amen fanatic.

This vinyl only release was mastered by Sappo and cut by Beau Thomas. The twelve inch also features a magnificent sleeve designed by Simos.

Criterion 22 sees the label taking a different and more experimental approach than previous records but maintains its dedication to intricate drum and bass as well as unleashing some of the toughest Amens into the scene.

Western Lore closes out the year with a special edition record, featuring a collection of unreleased tracks that have seen constant rotation in Dead Man’s Chest’s DJ sets over the last eighteen months.

Sampling an early 90s snippet of Fabio & Bukem (discussing the roots and inspiration of Jungle music), ‘Lo-Freq Soul’ sets the tone with shuffling half time grooves and morphing acidic bass tones before dropping into an eclectic collage of soul, reggae, and stepping breaks. The ‘Soundboy Version’ hones in on the outro rhythm of the original, offering a more subtle, rolling and progressive take on the low end groove.

Western Lore’s resident DJ Josimar makes a co-production appearance on the Ruffneck version of Haunted Dub; A machine gun assault of b-boy breakbeats, dancehall chants, saturated dub hits and rasping darkside tones. The ‘Rubadub’ version sees Dead Man’s Chest on a drunken dubwise flex, re-working the samples over a smoked out 70s bass riff, staggered percussion and skeletal 4/4 reggae kicks.
