The man in the black suit left the room. It was not the first time Armin met with him, nor was it the first of his kind to visit, but this time something felt different, and he was serious about considering his offer.
Humans were rare visitors to Earth. The androids' status quo was built on the solid conviction that only machines were capable of sustaining a peaceful and equal society. The image of humans brought back memories of ambition, betrayal, and war. Only Armin was allowed to remain on the planet's surface—the power of his burning heart had been the pillar from which machine feelings arose. And at the end of the day, he was not completely human.
But his heart was.
After almost 500 years, he could feel his time was coming to an end, and its final beat was not far. He had always been obsessed with space, but despite many offers, he had always refused to make the trip. Earth was his home, and the androids had always treated him as a living god. Everything that happened since he was brought back as a cyborg had been an insane experience, and he truly felt like one of them. But he was not, deep inside he knew it, and maybe now it was time to take that offer, to get into that spaceship and spend his last days among his kin.
Leaving Earth to play for humans once again somehow felt like treason, after everything the androids had done for him—keeping him alive and feeding his obsession of creating new sounds with sound processors he could have never imagined. The burning heart that once symbolized human passion now beat within the very machinery of existence, a bridge between what was lost and what could be.
But this time was different. He was curious about Gaia, wondering how humans managed to rebuild society. Despite the offers of wealth and comfort humans had made throughout the years, all that Armin really wanted now was to rest, in peace.
One last gig on Earth, probably the biggest in his more than 500 years as a DJ.
One last gig on Gaia for who knows how many humans.
And then, eternal rest.
His mind was set, and the androids would have to accept it. After all, grief was also a human emotion, and they had learned to process it through the universal language of music—just as they had learned to understand so many other emotions he had transmitted through his art.
And so it was that Armin left Earth in the year 522 of the age of the machine. He performed his last gig before takeoff for millions of androids cheering his name, standing before the spaceship that would finally take him into the vast unknown, to reunite with his people.
The image of the burning heart slowly became the androids' banner, transforming from a mere symbol to a living testament of connection—between flesh and metal, between past and future, between loss and hope.
The story of the creator resonated on Earth for centuries. It slowly turned into a legend that held android society together, giving them peace, unity, and love. A reminder that emotion is not bound by circuitry or flesh, but by something far more profound—the unquenchable spirit of creation.
