Being so bored, I decided to cover one of my favorite Nero songs...only on guitar and whatnot! I thought it turned out pretty good. :) All drums, bass, synths programmed by me. Guitars played and arranged by me.

"Promises" - Nero (Metal Cover)

A Cover of a cover. Also doubling as kind of a tone test. Settings are as follows:
Guitar - H-1007 7-string by ESP LTD

I actually had to transpose this by ear because the original song is played on a 6-string guitar in Drop C tuning. I recorded/tracked this on a 7-string guitar tuned in Drop G#. 

Signal Chain: (via Revalver VST)
-Dual Tube Compressor
-Noise Gate
-Tube Screamer TS808
-Noise Gate
-Peavey 6505+ Amp Head
-Custom Impulse Response (Cab Simulation)
-8-Band EQ

There are four guitar parts:
Two were hard-panned hard left and hard right
The other lead-type guitars were panned varying from Center to L/R 80

Bass:
-Bass Guitar? What bass guitar? Programmed bass!
-Bass courtesy of Trilian Virtual Bass VST by Spectrasonics
-Compressed pretty hard for leveling and amp simulation purposes
Signal Chain:
-Virtual Instrument (Rock Bass - Full Range model - Based on some Fender Bass)
-Compressor
-Tape Slammer (heavily saturated)
-Smoke Simulator (USA Modern Model)
-3-Band EQ
-Various Velocities hand-set to simulate more human-like sound
-Panned center (of course), with no stereo expander.

Carol of the Bells (Backing track)

Hi all, My name is Lincoln and I'm a poor college student/aspiring engineer from Wisconsin!
Courtesy of Days on Juno and Adam "Nolly" Getgood, I was able to have my first experience mixing/mastering a track. Even better, this is somewhat of a competition, haha!
Anyways, I'm going to get down to what I did here.

For the most part, I left the raw files as is, except for some sample blending within the snare and bass drum tracks. I actually only have one sample set...some Joey Sturgis Truth Black and Gold Drum set. There are some issues with some "clapping" delay effect, due to my laptop being funky with drumagog. Oh well, I think sounds cool in certain parts!
I ended up using a lot of Ozone VSTs for the Vocals; reverb, and just a slight bit of compression (the tracks were already somewhat compressed).
For the DI Bass track, I ended up using a Amp Sim VST called Revalver, also the result of my poorness as a college student. I created a signal chain that involved slight distortion, and definition in the higher (almost unheard anyway) frequencies.

I mixed and mastered this between a pair of Samson 3i Bookshelf Monitors, and a pair of Sony MDR-ZX600 headphones. 

Overall, I ended up trying to make a full-sounding mix, but not with the low-end overpowering. I actually went through about 3 exports before finding a mix I was pleased with.

Anyways, enough of my noobish babbling, haha.

Diddy Kong Racing

I brought it back to some punk pop today, and decided to cover this beauty. I absolutely love Head Automatica, but it's a shame I can't find anybody to cover the vocals on this (hint hint).
The mix intentionally came out very punchy because that's the way I like songs like this. :)

I did this song as a tone test, and out of excitement for their soon-to-be-released "Swan Damage" album that I've been waiting years for!

On a another side note, the Rock Organ was made with Absynth 5 by Native Instruments.

So I ended up doing this song a couple months ago on just headphones. I attempted this time on monitors and headphones. I used a couple different samples this time around, and panned some things differently.

Days On Juno - Colours (Re-Up)

This was just a tone test to show the tone "Bulb Rhythm Patch" I recently released on the Line 6 Custom Tone. Please excuse my cheap, when-fretting-out-of-tune guitar. The pickups are stock, and the guitar is a Peavey Raptor Plus (fail). Every single bit of this was recorded/mixed/mastered by me.

Solo wasn't completed because I was on a time constraint to learn this on a Sunday, and because my guitar sounds horrible, intonation-wise, when soloing. Hopefully, in the future, I'll have access to a better guitar.



Mile Zero Tone Test!

So this is a test of some new tones my friend Chris and I have been working on. The bass I used here was a Squier Vintage Jazz Bass...and the strings were of the lighter gauges, so tuning to C, it became pretty floppy. As well as the guitar I used, a crappy Purple Peavey Raptor Plus. 

This is probably one of the first mixes I've had with actual bass in it in AGES. I hope to work more on mixing with live bass, and if I say so...I don't think this sounds that bad at all :P

Erised Tone Test - Lots of Purr and Slap Bass!

Just a re-up for my studio website page in progress.

Erised Tone Test (Re-Up) Mastered

Lately, I've had nothing better to do than school...but I got bored today and decided to quickly cover this gem. This is kind of a test for tones, mixing, and mastering techniques.

Features in this test:
-Snare and Bass drum extensive EQ - trying to go for that Periphery II sound :P
-Axe Fx 2 Tones - Rhythm and Ambient
-More messarounds with Izotope Ozone Suite 5
-My crappy guitar skillz
-My sister's crappy Peavey Raptor with stock pickups
-New approach to programming gritty bass through Trilian
-New Studio setup in my room -> new sound?
-Purely wet-tracked guitars --> no dry/reamped tracks at all.
-Crazy amounts of drum velocity edits in the last part of song.
-A small gap of silence due to synths not put in yet.
...and I think that's about it.

Erised Cover (In works)

First off, please excuse the random "ducking" instances...I have the full song done, but I'm still trying to get rid of those instances using multiband compression. 
On a brighter note, this is a test of a ESP LTD H-1007 with BKP Aftermath 7's. I installed these myself, and it's the first time I've ever installed any pickups. I did it successfully and am happy :)

Chain: Guitar>Axefx>DAW

This is also a test of a new virtual bass called Zombass 3...reamped of course.
Sounds nice but not really mixed and mastered with care...I was kinda rushing to get this done.

Bareknuckle Aftermath 7 Test

Here's the full version, kinda re-done from the clip I put up awhile ago. THIS STILL HAS THE DUCKING ISSUE, but I did find out what the issue was caused by...it was caused by the upgrade to FW10, not all of my settings optimized for the new FW, so it was output clipping. Oh well. 

Signal Chain: Guitar>AxeFx2>Computer via USB

Plugins used:
Soundtoys Decapitator
Izotope Ozone 5 Maximizer
Izotope Ozone 5 Reverb
Zombass 3 Virtual Bass - reamped thru axe fx 2
Superior Drummer - Base Avatar Kit, modded to heck may I add.

-I was going for a minimalist type of approach, trying to use as little things as possible.
-I spent literally about an hour-and-a-half on the drum preset, along with finding the appropriate limiting, tunings, and reverb for it.

Guitars played by me on an ESP LTD H-1007 with Bareknuckle Aftermath 7's installed.

Even though this has the weird ducking output issue, I think it still sounds decent for the most part...what do you think?

Facepalm Mute (Axe Fx 2 Tone Test)

So I had a friend ask me the other day about covering the song "I Knew You Were Trouble" by Taylor Swift...so of course I said yes...but I decided we were going to approach it in a different way. Here's a good 10 seconds of it, not mastered or mixed for the most part. These parts are original.

This is the main result of what happens when I get bored...I try and figure out new things to do, studio-wise. Anyways, y'all might know this song. I made this synth myself with a combo of 3 square saw I synths in massive...and then kinda messed around until I got something I was happy with. I also added a bunch of side-chain compression to give that house effect. If you can, download this and play it through a nice stereo system...there's a lot of bass ;)
