Preoccupations’ songs have always worked through themes of creation, destruction, and futility, and they’ve always done it with singular post-punk grit. The textures are evocative and razor-sharp. The wire is always a live one. But while that darker side may have been well-explored, that’s not quite the same as it being fully, intensely lived. This time it was, and the result is ‘New Material’, a collection that broadens and deepens Preoccupations to a true mastery of their sound. In it lies the difference between witnessing a car crash and crashing your own, between jumping into an ocean and starting to swallow the water. 

Opener “Espionage” kicks off with a clattering, rhythmic echo that gives way to sprinting percussion and a melody in the orbit of Manchester’s classics. “Manipulation” explores the futility of going through the motions, balancing a droney, minimal march with a thunder roll that brings it to the brink, and to the doomed romantic declaration, “please don’t remember me like I’ll always remember you.” “Disarray” bursts up like a blackened confetti cannon, the song’s undeniably bright melody dancing over a refrain of “disarray, disarray, disarray” and literally nothing else. 

If the through-line unifying Preoccupations’ work is a furious, almost punishing cyclical quality, ‘New Material’ does offer some relief, as that propulsive, itchy quality rescues ‘New Material’ from the proverbial bottom of the pit. To write these songs is to force oneself to reignite, to play them is to stand up and reengage. 

‘New Material’ is Preoccupations’ third studio album and is available on March 23rd.

One of Greece's best kept secrets, Alien Mustangs, unleash their debut full length on May 25th via Sound Effect Records. Hailing from Thessaloniki, Alien Mustangs develop their own brand of psych-rock. Through their powerful live shows and DIY releases, finally capturing its transcendental energy and rock 'n' roll playfulness on "Alienation"! The album will be available in limited edition black and clear vinyl and digital download, available via all the known platforms. 
Alien Mustangs are a group of musicians that follows its own path, regardless of the dominant trend or the usual social media glitch. 
 The band has been steadily pushing new frontiers through a number of releases. From the opening howl of the “Pause / Red Tambourine” 7 inch, released in March 2013, to the “River” 10 inch EP, out in May 2014, up to “The Tape Sessions” two-track, released exclusively on cassette in November 2015, their mutant psych / space hybrid is deeply rooted in sixties garage, whilst paying tribute to their influences, with Loop, Spacemen 3, The 13th Floor Elevators and The Stooges chiefly among them. 
A long player was long overdue, and being an Alien Mustangs LP, it was determinately recorded , on 8 track tape recorder. As usual, the band entered the studio with no preconceptions or big ideas –just trying to remain focused on the music and let their sonic interactions in the rehearsal room lead them where they might. The resulting product is “Alienation”, a psychedelic punk showdown that could never have been mapped out, let alone calculated. 
Drop it onto your turntable and listen to an ahead of the pack brand of rock’n’roll krautodelia like you’ll never hear again from this far flung corner of the planet.

FACS features Jonathan van Herik, Noah Leger and Brian Case, all formerly of Chicago band Disappears. Using minimalism and space, FACS make abstract and modern art rock.
