Behind the scales of ‘Orpheyo Dragon’ you will find Dean Benson, a man who over the last decade has become entrenched with the music scene and outdoor lifestyle arena. In recent years this project came to light after his exploration into sound, consciousness, our planet and the mysteries of the Universe. He dedicated many years to discover his ancestral wisdom through in-depth study of Shamanic & Esoteric Magick, which led him to his calling as a therapist facilitating Sacred Space.

Dean’s passion evolved to mentoring Artists and those connected to him to work deeply on their inner worlds, wounds and overall vibration. It is his belief that the power of an Artist cannot be underestimated in how they can transform an audience to connect to their own magic, heal and to let go of their own inhibitions, struggles or self worth limitations.

It is the artists responsibility to keep themselves in this highest vibration and Dean has worked with big names in whom play music to millions every year, such as Patrice Baumel, Marcus Henriksson, Roger Martinez and Daniel Avery just to name a few. If an artist’s energetic cleanliness is in pristine condition and their intentions are true, this is a recipe for a more wholesome and unified field of connection. Not only on the dance floor, but personally for each audience member and something that they can take home into their lives and families.

Dean is fast becoming a regular in the lifestyle program of festivals and events, from teaching meditation to open discussion about his experience in altered states of consciousness, but his on stage presence and passion for driving hypnotic techno has never changed. His ability to entice the audience to journey within, explore the unknown and be free/lost in the field of quality vibes continues to grow greater as he is committed to working hard on constantly improving himself, thus evolving.

Music alone has taken him across the globe, from main stage festivals to the most intimate of club shows; most notably overseas performances in Croatia for Modem Festival and Norway at Midnight Sun Festival. Although as he claims, “nothing compares” to his hometown favourite Rainbow Serpent Festival where he feels honoured and blessed to have played the last 7 on the infamous Market Stage.

Bunker have come a long way in just one year and are involved in some of the best techno parties in Melbourne, I highly recommend getting down to their shows.

Dean Benson @ Bunker 1st Birthday (Boney) 16.05.14

Here is my Orpheyo Dragon set recording from Dragon Dreaming Festival closing Sunday nights Main Stage session. 

Perfect sound, in perfect surroundings, made this a very special experience in the natural beauty this country has to offer.

Playing after some higher bpm artists at a prime time, really set the tone for me to lock the floor into a groove for a full power hypnotic techno trip.

I was well prepared, like I always am for taking on the responsibility of playing on a big stage and setting the frequency for so many people. The energy an artist can transmit to a dance floor is not something I take lightly, as it can be a very transformative place. I show up with the best of my ability, connected, energetically clean, confident and with presence, ready to delivering the vibes.

Thank you to the receptive dance floor that stayed for the journey with me and I thank all the dragons involved in supporting my musical ventures, it was an honour.

The next release will be the debut EP for Orpheyo Dragon, bringing through the dance floor orientated hypnotic techno that is the basis of this label.

'The Black Light Records' is a place for all things hypnotic, from Peak Time Techno, to Ambient and Meditative Music.

This debut EP for the label was planned to show that the intentions of this label are for just pure expression, no ulterior motives.

Dean Benson has been an Australian based Techno artist for 20 years, predominantly known as a DJ under his 'Orpheyo Dragon' project. Hypnotic grooves is his signature. 

Having been a regular at most premier outdoor festivals in Australia like Rainbow Serpent, Earth Frequency & Dragon Dreaming, it resulted in some great international bookings with renowned festivals such as Modem (Croatia), Midnight Sun (Norway) & Summer Contrast (Poland), amongst various club shows.

Producing for close to 10 years, 'The Black Light Records' is now their home.

The ‘Orpheyo Dragon’ project, is music for dance floors.

After 20 years in the industry and behind the decks, Dean Benson is now birthing his dance floor orientated hypnotic Techno production under Orpheyo Dragon.

All of his other loves of ambient, melodic, ceremonial, meditative & down-tempo music will be released under the banner of ‘Dean Benson’, so there is no restriction on what can be created.

This first Orpheyo Dragon release, has 2 tracks, titled ‘Igniting The Flame’ & ‘Pathway Arising’ to signify the birth of this creative outlet and his soul expression of the journey that hypnotic electronic music can facilitate.

Dance floors have the ability to connect us, to our internal desire to move freely in celebration and awaken the dormant part of us that remembers tribal dance. It also can connect us to something much bigger than us, a community of like minded groovers and the land in which we stand.

Another Rainbow Serpent Festival bites the dust and I have left again with some unforgettable memories of playing on the Market Stage Sunday Night after the Marcel Dettmann & Peter Dundov double.

Dean Benson has been synonymous with Techno for the past 20 years, as he forged his sound in the scene here & abroad.

Along with the Techno Scene & Outdoor Festival Culture, Dean invested in his personal healing & development journey through the study of Esoteric & Magical Arts. He is now an initiate, teacher and practitioner of these arts within The White Dragon Lineage.

Midnight Sun Festival 2016, Væroy Norway | Sunday Night 1:30am-3am | Beach Stage

What an experience to play music on the beach in the most beautiful place I have ever seen. Væroy Island on the arctic circle is a magical place with alot of ancient Viking culture & during the summer see's 24/7 daylight. The weather was beautiful during the 4 hour simultaneous sunrise & sunset for my set, after some hectic weather, so I was very grateful to be able to share my music with the amazing colour that the sun provided. 

Highly recommend anyone wanting to witness an amazing party to get to this festival that runs every two years.

This was my first experience travelling to the magical location Inland NSW and what a treat it was to play on the water stage next to Lake Burrinjuck with Knobs, Paul Abad, Gabriel Moraes, Bloom and Zigmon.

My heart is filled with so much positive inspiration after experiencing my 7th year playing on the impeccable Market Stage. 

A lot of love was put into this set (as always), but this year I honoured some friends of my music who passed during 2018, Brittany Hall and Yanni Plugger Sarantis. I felt obliged to call in these two beautiful techno loving souls to a place that means so much and I smiled feeling their presence throughout my set.

Dedicating this set to them and the spirit of the Rainbow Serpent was a beautiful experience for me. I am privileged to be able to co-create in this space, with this evolving community and seeing the Wildwood presence keeps my heart warm. 

Infinite love to all those who have supported me on this journey, you know who you are! Enjoy the vibrations ;)

Orpheyo Dragon @ Rainbow Serpent Festival 2019 Market Stage

Unveiling the mask, expression of true self and allowing the creative feminine to shine, are just some of the terms that come to mind when looking at this beautiful stage “The Swamp” @ MoDem Festival. 

The journey to Europe was centred around a booking to play at this world renowned festival and it was a pure joy to share the stage with some of my Italian techno gangster idols like, Ness, Feral, Luigi Tozzi, Antonio Ruscito & Knobs. 

The europeans sure do love their techno & this was the 2 hour journey I created for a day time stomp on the swamp. A very special experience that will be cherished.

Here is a recording of my set at the best festival in the world Rainbow Serpent, tucked away out in the wilderness of Victoria Australia. I felt truly honoured to play at this special place, and it was a real treat to play on the Market Stage after Peter Van Hoesen.

Dean Benson @ Rainbow Serpent Festival 2013 Market Stage Sunday Night

I will always remember this set. The first of the decade on NYD with a super grooving engaged dance floor @ my beloved Wildwood!

This is a fitting share for me, as its been 8 months since my last set I released from Modem Festival, and this is really representative of my current approach to life. Light hearted fun, yet at times a serious adventure, all while pushing the creative envelope. 

This is a short one as due to the fires all our set times got squashed, but was grateful to get to play.

The space we created at Wildwood allowed for true expression and I find myself flowing through genres a lot more than anywhere else.

Reflective of my journey this year, at times we dance with childlike play and at times we need to focus on the task at hand.

This was never going to be shared, but hey, I dont know when my next gig is, so I hope you can find some fun in here. I am looking forward to getting back onto a real dancefloor soon! This set features elements of music from every decade since the 80s. 

My challenge to you is to chuck on some headphones, turn it up and clean your house while boogying to the grooves, see what you can get done in this journey.

Orpheyo Dragon @ Wildwood Old Roots New Growth 01.01.2020

A break from music came to a holt when I got asked to play for Camp OZcillation during the Burning Man online event. The livestream Dusty Multiverse VR experience was a stellar attempt to connect people to Art, Music and Community through times where live events are not able to run.  

This was a much needed creative outlet for me, having been focused within my family unit, household and business realms for the majority of the year.

I hope this exploration into the hypnotic spaces of techno can provide inspiration towards your future creative endeavours.

Dean Benson is 20 years into his electronic musical venture, and is just getting started.

Launching his imprint 'The Black Light Records' in 2024 is the offical birth of his production coming into the world, outside of his DJ sets whom have housed them for years.

Orpheyo Dragon is the signature hypnotic techno project that has been following Dean since it was launched at Rainbow Serpent Festival in 2018, where Dean Benson is reserved for everything from down-tempo to ambient hypnotic or meditative music.
