"4 October, 1689: Dearest Elizabeth"
Dorothy writes to Elizabeth and warns her not to take the main road when she comes to visit next; strange things are happening along the road, especially near the cave.  Dorothy requests a new meeting location, away from her home.

Prelude, a Letter: 4 October, 1689; Dearest Elizabeth

Yesterday I entered the cave to the north of the garden on the edge of the forest.

There was a sadness in the cave that held me from fleeing and made me too afraid to go deeper.

In the silence a voice within the cave screamed my name.  I fled the cave.

I was only in the cave for a few minutes, but it was dark out when I turned around and left.

Elizabeth, Dearest,
Of the Void: it swallows all.  Do not return home until you can fight it.  The void consumes the soul and lets the body slowly die.  It hates us but loves what we make.  Do not return home unless you can fight it.
