Printmaking is such a broad discipline with a wide variety of complex techniques, from ancient to modern ones, to create finely crafted prints minimized with mechanical interference. Most prints would be born within the artist's own hands and skillful techniques, so the number of copies is often extremely limited.
In the art of printmaking, 𝐌𝐚𝐢 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧 - the printmaker currently studying and working in the state of Minnesota, USA - has a passion for and pursues woodcut printing techniques. For some of these works, designs will be printed directly onto paper from a piece of wood that has been previously drawn and carved. This technique has been around for a long time, dating back to several thousand years. Similarly, in Vietnam, we also have Dong Ho paintings and Hang Trong paintings created mainly from the manual wood carving (woodcut) technique.
Having this exhibition, Mai would like to introduce art lovers in Saigon, especially young people, to the different aspects of the art of “handmade printing” - printmaking. This personal exhibition represents Mai's dear greeting to her hometown after five years away from it. Most of Mai's works reflect her thoughts and feelings, accrued from the moments of remembrance with her hometown and her experiences in life.

There are moments of pure delight as sections of white space, tree and pine wood aroma, hover over freshly cured terrazzo floors and modern scandinavian furniture.
