Guest Mix 2 comes from Alvaro Cabana who we wrote about last year and its full of quality dark hypnotic Disco that I am sure you will enjoy !

Quoting from man himself describing the mix "It's a half and hour mix with some forthcoming tracks from my own label and some not so new tracks that i still love"

His label is called “Rotten City Records” and will be vinyl only (limited copies of 300) and the first release will be later on this year !There will be some exciting acts on the release schedule such as David Shaw and the Beat and Tronik Youth!! Cant wait to hear them!!

Playing for Jailyard Music at Club Fringe in Stirling on September 20th so thought I would record a promo mix in the build up to it ! 

The vibe of the mix is very housey and will be similar to the type of tunes that I will be playing in the Jailyard on the night(plus some Disco and bangers later!) !!

These guys have been featured on the blog quite a few times through their excellent label Emerald and Doreen and their equally amazing podcast series Something Spaecial !!

Here is their biography : 

The Robot Scientists (TRS) are vinyl-only DJs from Germany. TRS became known through myspace and soundcloud and are now respected worldwide for their sophisticated track selections and energetic live sets. Their sound is always hypnotic, psychedelic and synth-heavy, a spaced-out mix of NuDisco and Deep House with a touch of New Wave. They launched their own label "Emerald & Doreen" in 2012.

Stefan and Markus met again in 2008, after exactly twenty years. As Markus was studying and working all over Germany, they haven't met after the end of their common school days. As teenagers, they played in the same basketball and football teams and DJed together at school disco evenings. They got heavily influenced by their DJ-godfather Ronald Springer who was the resident DJ at their local "Chic" discotheque in the 80s, having worked at the Studio 54 and at the BBC before. Back then, they invested every Deutschmark they had into the best italo disco records Ronald played on Saturdays: Mr.Flagio, Doctor's Cat, Casco, B.W.H. and the like. 

When Markus and Stefan met again, they knew that the disco revival had started, so they decided to start with The Robot Scientists. Markus had a radio show in Mannheim/Germany before, www.musique-elliptique.de, and his co-host, friend and TRS-guitarist Eric gave him the "I-Robots" compilation as a present, already in 2005. Both haven't heard of CBS (Cybernetic Broadcasting System) yet, but they had their shelves full of 80s vinyl. As the classic italo vocal tracks were ok in the 80s, but sounded pretty cheesy in 2008, they started mixing mostly the instrumental b-sides on their now almost legendary "Musica da Batticuore" mixes. They found thousands of friends and supporters on myspace and readers of their blog "Mister Italo". Until today, 17 Musica da Batticuore mixes have been made which have been downloaded more than 20.000 times until today.

When the NuDisco-scene emerged shortly after, they started hunting for the best new tracks and edits on vinyl. They created a new mixtape series, "Cosmic Beach Club" and "Spaced Out Disco". TRS also produced several edits of obscure italo and space disco gems which they made available for free on their soundcloud page. Most successful ones so far were "Freak Connection Freaks in Space Edit" by Cerrone and "The look of love Synth Edit" by ABC. 

When Black Leather Records asked them for a remix of a Greg Punkov track and David Caretta of International DJ Gigolos fame said he wants to release their first single on his label Space Factory, they teamed up with guitarist Eric and Ex-Vienna Scientist, drummer, song writer and producer Markus "Fred Scholl". Together in the studio, they produced their "Space Love EP" with the two electro-space-wave-disco tracks "Star Dust" and "Earth Rock", later also "Black Hole" and "Catch Fire" which they released on their own label Emerald & Doreen which they founded in 2012. 

Spinning strictly vinyl, they played live sets at Stall 6 in Zurich, at Cosmicotherapy Party in Paris, the Introducing Festival in Berlin, at Vielspass in Rennes, as support for Giorgio Moroder in Luxembourg etc.

She has been a favourite of ours in the last year with her spaced out and haunting Disco/Techno releases on labels such as La Dame Noir and Viaal_Rec !!

This mix comes from Spain's LosBikini ! They first came to our attention when Cannibal Ink played some of their tunes on the guest mix they recorded for us ! This mix is the perfect example of what to expect from them !!

LosBikini are a new couple on Madrid underground scene, born in 2013, they start career in several clubs, like Evaristo, Siroco, Palma3, Cafe la Palma, The Clap, The sKool, Fomento, Demode, Barcode, Loa and many more, his first release was in Feb 2014, with "Factor30", published in Logical rec, and remixed by Ivan Smoka and Papol, two all stars of Madrid scene.
After more than 50 gigs in 2014, London Brixton based label, Nude Disco bet for they, and give them a chance for a remix and an Original for january and june release, with several quality artist like Italo Brutalo or Nude disco.
In May 2015 will land Pals 02, in Teninente,s Castillo label, Play Pal, with a complation full of aces, like Future bones, Did Virgo, Duncan Gray, Teniente Castillo, Thomass Jackson, The Modenrphase, Vox Low and Club Bizarre. in this one LosBikini apply with an original mix called "Round One".
For the following months we will see some LosBikini appearances in labes like Tici Taci, Mange Moi, Blindetonation, Play Pal, Sub:sonic and some more.
Also they will be playing around Barcelona OFF sonar, Clube Ferroviario Lisboa, Nico Pamplona and of course Madrid based Evaristo club, wich is is monthly residency, hosted by Pol Gandman.
They are working all day long in built is own club with slomo pionner Javi Busto, wich is an important part in Madrid scene since 1988.
Some of his tracks will be remixed soon by Spain classics, Dynamicron, Alvaro Cabana (losLopez), Teniente Castillo and many more.
Do not leave them alone in a dj booth ...

Guest Mix 55 - Sean Johnston (Hardway Bros and Alfos)

Our next guest mix comes from Gus Van Sound! We first heard of him when our friend Julie - Anne sent us his warm up set when supporting Weatherall and we could not wait for him to record a mix for us !! 

After 20 years behind the decks and five being the resident of Moog Club, he’s unstoppable…. 

During 2014 he founded the labels Polybius trax and Clásicos del Ruido with Der Kapitan, the first one deeply dedicated to the dance floor and the second one to classic dark sounds.

Just recently the Fact Magazine named him as one of the most underecognised artists out of a list of 100 djs world wide.

A little bit about the release :

LOGICAL RECORDS (LR048) SARA ZINGER & ALDA - MY MIND (EP)

Logical Records present MY MIND EP. For this time, French Artist, Sara Zinger and Alda made a fantastic collab on the  track with Sara Zinger and Alda as song producer. The result of this amazing mix is 'My Mind', a track of nu disco with a nice groove and feeling.

The German producer 'Italo Brutalo' has remixed the original Track getting an awesome Dark Disco sound respecting the nuances of the Original Track.

Last Remix was made by Ivan de la Rouch, Logical Records boss label and a part of LosBikini duo, with an amazing Dark Disco sound .

We are very pleased to announce the Official Debout of Sara Zinger with her first release in  Logical Records. Born and raised in north France she travelled a lot and settled in Marseille 7 years ago. She started djing at that Time and later on came the production. Producing singing and djing is what she aims to so that she can deliver her own artistic performance from A to Z once behind The desks.

 ALDA started deejaying in the early 2000s and started production in 2008. He dabbled with several different styles – electro, techno, minimal – and trained a long time before putting all his musical projects on hiatus after his child was born. This break enabled him to further develop his way of composing and broaden his array of electronic music INFLUENCES. Releases on  Logical Records, Play Pal Music,  The Exquisite Pain Recordings , Nein Records and Mange_moi

Our next mix comes from In A Certain Ratio!! 

Here is a little biog about them:

In a Certain Ratio is a Music Project composed by Vicente Garcia and Esther Ester and based in Madrid.
Our influences are based on both current and old school sounds, from 80´s and 90´s sounds, with highlights of film soundtracks like Giallo, for example , to music made with Goblin synthesizers .
On this occasion, it is our pleasure to present this mix for our friends Death By Repetition. 

This mix is our personal approach towards new artists productions, working with hard synthesizers and yet full of rhythm, dark vowels, broken guitars, industrial boxes and touches of Indie and also some old production to bring a touch of freshness.
We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it!

Anyone who reads our blog knows that we love the label The Exquisite Pain and it gives us great pleasure to be able to premiere a track from the "City Speak" EP by Marshall Brill!! The track is called "Midnight Safari" and is a lovely slice of house music reminiscent of early Chicago and Detroit records with a modern twist! The EP is released on December 12th!!

It also features 2 other tracks:

"City Speak" which is quite a trippy house track with very ambient pads which builds and builds until it smashes you with a meaty riff!

"January" is just a lush track that I could see the likes of A Love from Outer Space melting people with this on a big sound system!

Well we are back from our summer holidays with a new PREMIERE FROM PARDON MOI!!!! Its part of an EP which is set to be released this weekend in preparation for the Andrew Weatherall Convenanza Festival!!! 

A little bit of text about it:

Berlin based Pardon Moi, consisting of James Brook and Thomas Freudenthal, makes music that would fit perfect as a soundtrack for a ride in a Ferrari GTO convertible, or on a transatlantic flight on a Concorde. Unfortunately, vintage Ferraris are ridiculously expensive and Concords are taken out of flight but still, the music creates an air of luxury and decadence for you to fill your lungs and air with.,,Swiftly bursting into the electronic scene in 2016, the duo managed to release a couple of EPs and singles on Nein Records and Emerald & Doreen Recordings and then drew the attention of one of the most interesting and diverse European labels - Gothenburg based Höga Nord Records.,,Pardon Moi’s sound is warm, creative, uplifting and retro thanks to the use of analogue synthesisers. The musical direction is toward the future. A utopia built in a world where the 90s never happened. This is retro futuristic dance music, but the music doesn't stop with being only nostalgic but holds qualities that would make any actor within any scene of modern electronic dance music envy.'

Fontän have had the honour to be remixed by some of the most interesting names in electronic music: Red Axes, Timothy J. Fairplay, Khidja, Mythologen and Pardon Moi give their take on tracks from the duo’s latest release Fontän (Höga Nord Rekords, 2017). The music moves in the landscapes of Leftfield, Techno, House and New Wave.
The evolution of Fontän continues from the cold and barren landscapes of the Swedish west coast, through some of the deepest cave like studios in Europe, out on to the continental club scene.

The track is called “Bleak House” and it’s a proper ACID BANGER!! Feels slightly slower in tempo compared to the original track but with a much filthier bassline!

PREMIERE - Night Giants - Bleak House (Timothy Clerkin Remix)

Well our next PREMIERE comes from Chris Massey and Dita! 

After their last Jakarta Connections EP Sprechen release another collaboration with the music scene in Jakarta and the results are fantastic!

The EP is released at the end of the month.

The track in question is called "City Affairs" and it is a 100% certified banger!  Big nasty bassline with a hypnotic vocal loop which will destroy many dancefloors!

The other 2 tracks on the EP are the same track albeit slightly different versions but are lovely slices of Disco with a punk funk bassline!

Spanish disco dreamer James Rod is back on Paper with some superb cosmic business. The psychedelic artwork made by Fama de America is a good indicator of what's on the EP, out there aceness!

Belong City has a classic arpeggiated bass with effected guitar, 80s synths and crashing pads as it builds with heavy atmospherics. After the break, things are stripped things back as the bass follows a new progression but the the vibe stays. This is cosmic disco at its best and if you're a fan of DJ Harvey's sets, its for you.

Manchester's own cosmonaut, Daco is drafted in behind the controls and space is the destination. Loose rhythms, analogue synths, big room atmospheres and 4am stylings make this another must-have.

Chamanes Ochenteros keeps the cosmic but is more laid-back affair. Synths and arps are in full effect as the track wears its italo influences loud and proud. Its like the best 80s theme tune you've never heard but with modern production.

Bergen's Leca gives the track the full Norwegian wobble treatment. Sub and square bass make room for the acid as reverberated styling and groove take things weird and wonderful.

Our next PREMIERE comes one of our favourite labels Playground Records! It is part of the fantastic Wolfstream EP "Eastwood" which will be released on February 25th!

The track we are hosting is called "Am I Right" and this has been remixed by La Mverte who provides a dark gothic remix of the original track!

‘Eastwood’ is the 25th launch of Playground Records, which arrives from Russia through the Wolfstream duo who gives us 4 originals plus two remixes, one by La Mverte and the other by Balam.

The Ep begins with ‘Vilnius’, a blow bounces while a bass riff keeps us in rhythm opposed to a synthesizer that creates suspense. We reach the threshold and the door opens, the guitar keeps us in suspense, the cursed melody appears and makes us enter while the portal closes. 

A new landscape of changing colors amazes us. ‘Vilnius’ is no longer ‘Vilnius’, it is a planet of mysteries that move lightly and gracefully. We come and we are amazed but this rhythm continues without fatigue, the whistled melody moves away and we will miss it forever. 

We will never be the same. Sympathy for the devil, love for the strong bass, weakness for the detuned toms. ‘Eastwood’ is a forest of strange lumbers, of barks that dry and fall, of leaves that reflect the sun in silver and gold foliage.

A mountain valley where sounds create mystery and joy at the same time. ‘Eastwood’ is a town where no one remembers the names of the streets, where memory does not count because time is worthless. ‘Eastwood’ is the place where lost souls go looking for consolation.

It's time for ‘Horses’, a summer breeze that comes from the sands of a distant desert and comes to sneak down your balcony. The snake dance begins and the window fabrics fly inflated. Drums,percussions, guitars and synthesizers make a mantra of dreams that surround us and lead us bareback on wild horses for a crusade of lysergic steppes to remote destinations.

The litter of originals closes wondering ‘Am I Right?’ between clouds of resonant modulations which fall into a disturbing voice and the groove of a provocative bass traces the path to darkness. Hypnotic rock for demanding ears.

The first remix comes from the hand of a member of the Playground family, the Argentine Balam who puts ‘Eastwood’ into what appears to be a jungle of outer space, the percussions argue with the bass while a macabre synthesizer plays with us. Voices appear as calls from other worlds. Acid modulations jump to the scene, the track is out of control, madness takes everything around.

This release closes with the version, of the French La Mverte, of ‘Am I Right?’ who moves the panorama to the darkest streets of the cold wave with voices from satanic churches which bathe the track of mistery.

 A very low bassline marks the pulse. Synthesizers in epic pads format invade the place. The battery hits hard. Now even Gothan city is in danger.

Jaime Rodríguez Navarro AKA James Rod hailing from Extremadura, Spain is a DJ, producer and freelance sound creator.

He is renowned for his crisp producing & masterful performing of a melting pot of Disco, Future-disco, Cosmic Disco, Italo, funk, boogie & house vibes - this was recognized in previous years which saw him named No.1 Nu-Disco artist of 2017 alongside a host of leading artists including Andrew Weatherall, Todd Terje, Rayko, Vitalic & Justize. Adding to this, James was in the top 50 international artists selling the most records which has led him to be a highly in-demand Musician.

Day to day - James is the owner of the brilliant Spanish label; Golden Soul Records - founded in 2015, the label has released the work of countless international artists including Rayko, Get Down Edits, Jarle Bräthen, Copycat, Tulioxi, Copa Turbo, Somerville & Wilson, Slync, Molinar, Rigopolaf, Phunktastike & Juan Soto.

The re-release of the track ‘Spanglish’ composed with the Manchester artist Chris Massey and released by Sprechen Records, this will be republished in a compilation of the label Sprechen in cassette form and exclusively via Bandcamp, with the collaboration of the English singer Daniele Moore - a current member of the acclaimed London band Crazy P.

James is also an active member of the Gouranga Clan music blog managed by Isaac Ferry, son of the English singer Bryan Ferry, founder of the acclaimed group Roxy music. The Gouranga Clan is preparing the launch of its own label for this year and has the collaboration of artists such as Bonar Bradberry, Algy Strut, Raymang, Todd Terje and a host of high-quality artists recognized on all continents.

2020 sees the Spanish discotheque dreamer James Rod return to Paper with a magnificent cosmic business. The psychedelic artwork done by America's Fame is a good indicator of what will be featured on the EP.

A little bit about the release:

@Doomrec is back friday 26 june with « Human Condition » : new single of Spanish Producer Calma Tensa. Between dark disco and electronica, this track was composed with samples of an evangelic speech.

The remix was untrusted to french producer @Lefrit, half of @Psychotropiques, brilliant representant of @Curuba-records .
His version is halfway between trance and dancehall music, hightlight a melody that have heard it in the original track. Experimental elements bring a singular touch to the piece.

As in the past, mastering was given to Spanish musician K-effect working with Nein Records, Tici Taci, Tom Tom Disco ... making it a key player to indie dance / neo-dark disco scene.
