The goblin shark (Mitsukurina owstoni) is a rare, poorly understood species of deep-sea shark. Sometimes called a "living fossil", it is the only extant representative of the family Mitsukurinidae, a lineage some 125 million years old. This pink-skinned animal has a distinctive profile with an elongated, flattened snout, and highly protrusible jaws containing prominent nail-like teeth. Goblin Shark (rough instrumental demo)

We had this idea to do a 60s style vocal duet in the vein of Frank and Nancy’s Something Stupid or even Serge and Brigitte’s Bonnie and Clyde. Our friend Joey from Suicide Party and ELECTRA COMPLEX has a beautiful dark baritone voice and he will sing one part, a la Scott Walker, while Jennie will be the Nico-esque chanteuse.

We see this having a full string and brass backing. This is a really rough demo.

The song is called Saturday Night - lyrics are incomplete but it involves “getting off our faces on a saturday night” and one half of the narrating couple dying. I guess it’s corny, sort of Last Dance by The Raveonettes with whom we’re endlessly and lazily compared.

Maybe it’s more like that awful version of Iggy Pop’s Tonight that Bowie and Tina Turner did, completely stripping out the intro that showed it was the last words of the narrator to his lover, dying from an overdose.

Rejected song idea for NOVA. no words written, just a title, beat and a riff, now resurrected for realisation on album 3. Gonna be a stormer. Guest vocals and lyrics will be from Joey ELECTRA CMPLX.

Funtime (demo)

This is a rework / remix of a demo which was one of the last songs that my first band Six Inch Killaz worked on, during our protracted and painful breakup in 1998. The music was written by me, around a poignant lyric about age and loss by singer Jasmine, who was disintegrating from heroin addiction at the time.

I was told last week that it is the 20th anniversary of the founding of Six Inch Killaz this year. I also found out that two of the venues we used to frequent the most back then, PoNaNa (now The Buffalo Bar) and Madam JoJos are closing or have closed down.

Earlier this year, I also found out that Jasmine had died, back in 2010. 

So this is a response of sorts to these facts.

The 4 track demo was the only surviving recording of the song. We never played it together. 

Guitar and vocals are by me, recorded in 1998. Mona added a pretty toy piano on the second verse chorus a few years later. I revisited it this year after hearing of Jasmine's death, and added backing vocal, percussion and organ.

7 - 1 Regime (2015 Version) Rough Demo

Taking our new (vintage) Korg SM-10 synth for a spin. Improvised, one take each for three synth tracks and one guitar track, no corrections. Some mistakes (some good ones). 

May eventually become the basis of a new song. Enjoy the noises. There's a particularly sweet bit of white noise right at the end!

Yuma (rough)

Today would have been his 70th birthday, and we were really proud to have contributed a brand new cover of David Bowie's 'Teenage Wildlife' for DeXter Bentley's tribute show The Day Before, which went out yesterday from 9am on Resonance FM. 

The original was an album track off Scary Monsters, from a period in the late 70s / early 80s, when Bowie began to immerse himself in the melting pot of New York culture, an amalgam of New Wave, No Wave, disco, hip hop, pop and concept art, experimental theatre and everything else. He was changing from being an European to a New Yorker even though he was 'Afraid of Americans'.

It was a time of transition in his life and we wanted to record a version that nods to the sounds he would have been absorbing back then; hopefully there's an echo of some of the great post punk, new wave artists of the city at the time, Hell, Verlaine, Quine and co.

Bowie was an incomparable artist and a beautiful person who was a seminal influence on both of us personally and musically. We hope we've done him some justice.

We just found out our beautiful friend from Japan, Sachiko Fukuda​, passed away, far too young.

We were fortunate to have recorded this song with her providing a beautiful lead vocal and spoken word and it was to be part of our forthcoming album. 

But we would like our friends and hers to share this memory of her voice and spirit now. It is a free download at our Soundcloud if you would like to keep it
