I know it's been a while since you've heard anything new musically from me... I've been moving from one continent to another, along with a lot of other major changes in my life, but now I am finally settled down enough that I can start working on music again.

Boy, does it feel good. I mean, real good. I had no idea how much I missed it.

That said, here is a small album of mashups I threw together.  I am working on a more serious album of remixes that I hope to release in the near future, but not until my inner perfectionist is satisfied with every track.

Comin' atcha with some Bollywood favorites, dropped onto dope beats and crunchy, hard hittin' bass with a healthy dose of glitches to tie it all together... this is Ghettowood! Can you dig it?

Shiva Tandava Stotram (Free Download)

I've loved Earth, Wind & Fire for decades, and this is the track that turned me on to them.  It was used in a cartoon movie called "Rock & Rule," with a soundtrack that included Debbie Harry, Cheap Trick, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, and this track (that was made specially for the movie).  It's a great track, and it's also a great movie... check it out if you can!

Earth, Wind & Fire's drummer on this track is very skilled, but he is not only human but also tends to play in the pocket so it can be difficult to play this particular track in a set.  I respect their drummer, but the track needed a re-groove to play it in a set.  On top of the minor timing details that needed to be cleaned up, it also had one huge problem - it has a leading kick on the one... the downbeat hits 1/16th note before the 1.  So, in order to make this track play well with others, I had to fix that.  I overlayed stronger, heavier drums that cut through the mix more clearly, and for the most part, you can now barely hear that leading kick... it works in a mix for me, hopefully you'll agree.

The other thing I did was extend the song by about 2 more minutes - it was really short, just barely 3 minutes, which was long enough for the movie, but not quite long enough for the dance floor.  The ending also tended to clash pretty hard with other tracks when mixing, so I changed the ending to something that sits better.

I love this track, and am glad that I will now be able to play it in my sets.  I hope you enjoy it too, and can also find room for it in your set list!

This track was originally meant to go on a compilation Relative Dimensions is putting together of completely original tracks from its artists, but I felt that it was far too mellow to go in that collection.

As such, I sent it over to Tokyo Demo Fest to be played there where it came in 8th (it didn't get last place, but I am honestly a bit disappointed it didn't do better).

Anyhow, now that it's done competing, it is now available for you!  I am particularly proud of how expressive I got the sax to sound, I spent a lot of time focused on that part.

This track is a completely original work, not a remix and the only samples I used that weren't created by myself were a few sound effects.

So, the time of the renaming is at hand.  I have gone by "deathy" for decades, but after being told repeatedly that the name didn't quite seem to fit me, and agreeing that it really didn't seem to fit with the style of music I was making any more, I have decided to change my name to "DJ DefE D."  It's not a huge change in the way it rolls off the tongue, but it does require some new profiles on the social media sites.  For right now, I'm going to concentrate on just Soundcloud and Facebook, but I'll expand that.

To help get some attention, as part of the renaming, I will be releasing a new mashup or remix weekly for the year of 2019, all free downloads of course... it won't be high art, but it'll be fun and there'll be a whole lotta music to listen to.

I hope you'll come over and keep listening to me under my new name!
