Simple Things

It was a year ago I originally released "Angels", a most unlikely event given that it was a mouse click away from ever seeing the light of day.  I didn't like how it was progressing and wanted to scrap the whole thing.  That's the time you walk away and let it steep, let the idea mature and if it is a good one, let it fly.  Your response showed it was good beyond my hopes, and now made even better with Debra's wonderful playing on this second flight.  I hope you think so too. I like to name instruments. For me it imbues them with added life or personality. I don’t tend to go for girls names. I prefer obscure, silly or pretentious ones. I named this 12 string ‘Castrovalva’ after a Lego space cruiser I had for Christmas in the late seventies or early eighties. I named the space cruiser after an episode of Dr Who.

Pan was a lascivious Satyr of the mountains and the God of the Shepherds and the Flocks. His main task was to render the flocks fertile.
Of course, this mythical character relates to a fragment of the human psyche, which if given free rein...often shepherds those under "his" spell through the garden of delights, leaving them to repent at their leisure.

Here is also an attempt a composition in the Dorian Mode.
I don't really know if I even got close.
It was my best guess.

You may notice that the underlying rhythm is 8/8,
while the overlaid melodies are 3/4.

Pan Dorian

Best described as eclectic, my style is a soothing mix mirroring my personality: mostly mellow with the occasional outburst. Although I have a background in classical piano I have always loved to create and improvise.  Since early childhood I have been trying to duplicate on the piano what I hear in my head.  Now I see how formal studies and improvisation fit together perfectly. I hope to always keep growing and learning, reflecting the beauty of Christ in all my endeavors.
