I love how you take a piece music I have mostly ignored, and turned it into a minor masterpiece. Youve done this with other pieces, and given us a chance ( a musical double-take?) to appreciate a really beautiful melody we never really heard before. A lovely progression and even some jazz shadings. Wonderful...

The Glimmering Shore (feat. Suzanne Ledwith)

Many years ago, shortly after sunset my fathers brother Stan (aged 20) climbed aboard an aircraft along with 4 other young men. After taking off they effectively vanished into the night sky, with no trace of the aircraft or its crew ever found. This piece is dedicated to Stan and all of the young men, of all nationalities, whose lives have been cut short by war.

The calm pre-dawn with its promise of the new day to come is broken by the sun piercing the horizon.  Light streaks across the sky, kissing all it touches with gold.  Mundane objects are transformed into works of art by the beauty of this first light. Then the majesty and power of the suns slow warming ascent. 

...and yes I went there, I used tubular bells!

The inchworm in my piece is sleepy and somewhat contemplative.  Don't  hold it against him; he can't help it.

Inchworm

Fingerstyle playing has been a passion for me for over 45 years, having fallen in love with it when I first heard a college friend play with his fingers instead of a pick.  It was mesmerizing and I determined then and there I must learn how.  This song is the first I wrote using fingerstyle and has followed me around now for over 40 years evolving as I learned more playing technique.  I think it is still evolving, but this is where it is now; shades of light and shadow, good times, difficult times, hopefully full of the Grace of God. It is a musical portrait of me.  Performance note:  only one guitar used, the Taylor JKSM, standard tuning, no overdubbing--strictly solo fingerstyle.

A Million Reasons...

There are certain tones, colours, and intervals that work to make the Spanish world and guitar gel.  I think it comes from the Moorish influence. Interestingly, the instrument that really compliments it is the haunting sound of the  Cor Anglais English Horn, (which I get from Spitfire Audio Studio Woodwinds) . It's often assumed to be an oboe sound but its not.  It's more raspy. E minor is the perfect key for Spanish guitar but I tuned the whole lot down a semi tone just to give a bit more warmth and depth. Can you feel the character in this music?

Hello, and welcome to my piano world!  I am totally smitten by the sound of a piano.  As a girl I got into quite a bit of trouble for "arranging" my assigned piano pieces . Oops!!  After a lifetime of all-things-piano I continue to be fascinated by creating my own compositions.   I thrive on tweaking old favorites and writing original compositions as well as continuing with more formal studies.  My style reflects my personality: mostly mellow with a surprising twist of the knife here and there.  I hope to always keep growing and learning, reflecting the beauty of Christ in all I do.
