US based Zimbabwean rapper/producer Chimurenga Renaissance, son of legendary mbira player Dumisani Maraire, has put together a stunning remix of an acoustic track recorded by his sister, the 'Mbira Queen' Chiwoniso Maraire. 

Zvichapera, meaning "it will come to pass" in Shona, was originally made famous by the legendary guitarist and one of the most influential champions of Chimurenga music, Thomas Mapfumo, and this rendition of his classic is the final recording by Chiwoniso, Zimbabwe's modern day queen of pop, before her untimely death in 2013. 

Chimurenga's remix is up-beat, off-kilter and magnificent, adding extra guitars and his own characteristic rhymes, in which he pays homage to Chiwoniso as having the "the voice of a goddess" and an "immortal sound". The raw emotion of a brother mourning his sister is painfully clear throughout this passionate piece as Chimurenga lends his cutting-edge, US-influenced production style to this traditional African lamentation. 

Zvichapera captures the spirit of one of Zimbabwe's most talented musicians and adored personalities, and aptly comes to an end with Chiwoniso lovingly describing the instrument which brought her global recognition.
