"RE:SOUNDING aims to locate, record, digitise, and re-engage with the percussive sounds of the Vietnamese Bronze Age Đông Sơn drum.

Displaced by colonisation and the post-war trade in Southeast Asian antiquities, these drums have the significance of announcing the rain, harvests, fertility, and well-being of local communities as well as instruments of resistance and warfare. Now held in museums and collections throughout the world, this project reimagines how the Đông Sơn drum can conceptually exist beyond the museum display cabinet."

Debashis Sinha's creative output spans a broad range of genres and media, from solo audiovisual performance projects on the concert stage to the interior spaces between 2 headphones. &nbsp;Driven by a deep commitment to the primacy of sound, Sinha has developed his creative voice by weaving together his own experience as a 2nd generation south Asian Canadian, his training with master drummers from various world music traditions, a love of electronic and electroacoustic music and technology, and a desire to transcend the traditional expectations of how these streams might intersect and interact. The wide range of audio, video and audiovisual works, while varying in concept and content, are nonetheless a result of an artist with a fierce desire to expand the notions of what it means to express and be influenced by a life in/between cultures.

Sinha's live persona is a performance based expression of his explorations in sound and sound art. It activates the percussion training and sense of experimentation that Sinha possesses in a context that straddles the club and art gallery in equal measure. Upcoming releases are planned for 2018.

Sinha's continuing musical practice and re-interpretation of himself as an artist comfortable working in various media have allowed him to realize projects and performances internationally. &nbsp;He has been a recipient of grants from The Canada Council for the Arts, The Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Arts Council, and the Chalmers Foundation.
