"Breakfast of Champions is consistently my favorite party of the year both to DJ and attend. I opened the outdoor main stage at 9am this year and for all intents and purposes got to play the sunrise set I had been desiring to play but never got the chance at Burning Man earlier in the year. I took it as an opportunity and honor to be able to set the tone for the morning and get the party off on the right foot. I loved getting to play more of a house oriented set with vocals and a block party feel towards the end of the set. I had a blast playing and hope it shows through in the set."

Bio:
Deckard began DJing in Seattle in 2000 and soon began playing gigs up and down the west coast. Upon moving to San Francisco in 2005 he fell in love with the electronic music scene which is so unique to the Bay Area. You can find him spinning at San Francisco institutions such as Mighty, Shine, Supper Club, Wish and the End Up. Deckard capped off a successful 2009 by joining up with the Space Cowboys Burning Man camp. Depending on the crowd, venue and time of day you might find him spinning downtempo lounge, funky big beat, tech house, electro or breaks.

For this installment of my chill series I found inspiration the moment I heard a vocodered voice singing Hotel California in the Luxxury edit. A week later I heard AfroQBen's amazing remix of Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith and I was off to the races. Being a New Wave kid as a teen I didn't get into many of these songs until my adult years and yet somehow I listen to this mix and it makes me feel like a teenager again.

Deckard Breakfast of Champions 2024

First off a heartfelt thank you to all the Space Cowboys who made this Burning Man an incredible experience. I have been afforded the chance to become a part of your wonderfully twisted family, play some of the best damn parties anywhere, talk shit, and build crazy projects and I feel blessed to be a part of it. I came to the Cowboys because of the music and stayed because of the personalities and attitude. 

This year the Space Cowboys worked as hard as ever to build a 2 story saloon. Why? Because no one said no? Because who wouldn't want a 2 story saloon? The saloon rocked and now that we have one Burning Man under our belt with it I imagine we will figure out more and better ways to utilize it. 

This mix is dedicated to all you Space Cowboys and especially those who were there around Noon on Thursday to enjoy these tracks I got to lay out for my semi-delirious campmates after a triumphant Hoe Down and a work of building that led up to it. I love you guys.

I've been collecting a lot of funky, sunnier tracks this year. The sound is part lounge, funk, hip-hop, mashup, and even a taste of the 80s. When I started putting these tracks together for a mix I kept getting images of a pool party San Francisco style. Reminds me of sunny day parties I'd like to be at. Summer is here and the time is right for... chillin' with my new mix. Decidedly non-club oriented. Some of these songs I've collected over the years and keep coming back to. Not to denigrate other downtempo mixes, but I can only listen to Kruder & Dorfmeister so many times before it's time for something different. So I made this mix for me, but I hope you enjoy it too.

My Definition of Chill Vol. I

I compiled this set based upon what was a memorable house party to anyone who was there that night. I had the good fortune to be the first DJ to hop on the decks. The crowd was revved up and this set traces the energy of the party from tech house as the after party filled up and as the dance floor filled on to electro and breaks as the energy peaked. After playing about 2 hours none other than Lee Coombs came on to play his second set of the night. All for an intimate crowd of about 125 people. Those who were there talked about it for years. And for the first time now its on Soundcloud.

Breakfast of Champions has been my favorite event to DJ in San Francisco since the first the year I was invited to play 4 years ago. I still remember playing Fatboy Slim's Talkin' Bout My Baby ("under the big bright yellow sun) to start my set downstairs at Whisper. I was really excited to bring out my favorite new tunes along with a couple from earlier in the year and a first for me in getting to play Myagi's Viper which Rumblemunk and I remixed. I'm really happy with the tracks I played. Some filthy tunes in there for you to enjoy.

My Definition of Chill Vol. II  Part 2

Back again to leisurely rock your boomboxes with My Definition of Chill Vol. 3. I've been overjoyed with the reaction I've received from the first two installments.  What began as a mix I was initially going to keep to myself ended up becoming my most listened to mix I've released. For volume 3 my life in San Francisco was a big inspiration for the songs that made it in. A departure in style from both volumes 1 and 2. I'm really happy to share these 22 songs with you that I've been listening to for the last 6 months I've been putting this together. Lots of cool stuff I've run across with vocals from Bob Marley, Al Green and Paul McCartney, a classic from DJ Shadow remixed in elegant style, old school chill classics with Orbital and Nightmares on Wax (I had to include them at some point) and some nods to particular friends with a few of the songs. I want to send a big thank you to everyone who has expressed their gratitude for the My Definition of Chill mixes. It keeps the wheels turning knowing other people are really appreciating the end result.

The music of LCD Soundsystem is perfect. From a DJ perspective what more is there to do than pay homage? With a couple exceptions I used the original versions of their songs for this mix. It's everything I love about the music of my favorite band of this era.

Debuted at @SpaceCowboys 2020 It's a New Day / Breakfast of Champions in San Francisco. 

Space Cowboys and Breakfast of Champions has laid a foundation of ringing in the new year for crowds of smiling masses with the dirtiest of beats. It's a pleasure to be able to drop a brand new track in the middle of that madness. On a personal note, its been gratifying working with someone who knows how to make the machines sing so big ups to buy fellow partner in beats @rumblemunk.

Deckard - My Definition of Chill Vol. 4 Part One - More Chill


Born and bred in Washington, Keith Harris (a.k.a. Deckard) starting DJ-ing in 2000, at venues and clubs in Seattle and Canada.  He moved to San Francisco in 2005 where his skills and talent evolved and became even more prolific, garnering interest and accolade and earning him a spot in the underground music scene.  


Deckard made his big splash as a member of Coda in 2006 at Burning Man. Soon after he joined forces with the Space Cowboys whose parties are legendary in San Francisco and Burning Man and whose Ripecast podcast was nominated for Best Podcast of the Year by Breakspoll for 2013. 



Mixing together a blend of music selection including, but certainly not limited to breakbeat, nu funk, and house, Deckard keeps crowds on their feet and moving backed by his unique sound and ability to mix genres whether it be playing a sunrise set at Breakfast of Champions or closing down the main room in front of a packed warehouse.

Deckard has performed in a variety of venues on the west coast and Canada with DJs such as Jondi & Spesh, Uberzone, Lee Coombs, Plump DJs, Dylan Rhymes, Meat Katie, Elite Force/Simon Shackleton, Worthy and more.
