It is with a feverish excitement that we can finally announce the next EP in our catalog from our newest addition to the Second State family: Amelie Lens. Besides being quite a multi-talented virtuoso, the Belgian artist comes in hot and heavy for her debut release ‘Let It Go’ and with it showcases her prowess for dark, cutting-edge techno. Over the span of four tracks Lens takes us on a tour-de-force journey into the cerebral spaces of large, dark rooms and flashing strobe lights. Kicking things off is the hypnotically inducing 'Wild' with looping vocals laid over an ever increasing pressure of percussion and white noise. Much like the EP opener, 'Linger On' casts the same spell yet picks up the pace with racing snares and meteoric synth washes creating a deeply euphoric ride. The title track ’Let It Go' is up next and is by far the most 'cheeky' tune of the EP with a twisted acid line swirling around the constant begging of Lens’ voice encouraging you to "Let It Go, Let It Out". Rounding out the EP is 'The Finest Hour' and Lens wraps up her debut with the most psychedelic cut of the package. Low rumbling bass tones and spaced out pads over sparse drums leave lots of room for the imagination providing each listener to create their own journey to navigate. If this is Amelie Lens' debut with us, we expect a lot of very big things to come from the young Belgian and so should you. Welcome Amelie Lens!

Anyone who’s followed Maurice Aymard’s Galaktika label over the years will be all too aware of the imprint’s leaning toward eclectic sounds. It’s an ethos that mirrored in the work of Aymard himself and regardless of whether he’s turning his hand to tech house sounds or more straight-up techno jams, his is a way of working that’s endeared him to many over the years.

His latest is a case in point. The 75th chapter in the Galaktika discography, the Into the Night EP serves up an array of sounds that are enticing as they are upbeat and intriguing.

Getting us underway is the sounds of the title track. An unfurling beast of a track that’s loaded with dramatic tension throughout, it’s an eerie cut that’s characterised by its clever bells and some incessant percussion. A full on track that’s not to be handled lightly, it’s repetitive nature and sporadic vocal charms is indicative of Levon Vincent at his best.

‘Shinning’, a more progressive cut, follows after. Another track that’s notable for the suspense that lingers throughout, it serves up a nice stylistic alternative to what’s arrived before.

Aymard then goes all out on the frankly astounding sounds of ‘Rage’. A propulsive gem of the type that sees the producer greatly rewarded for trying something that bit different, it’s a special sort of track that takes on various tones throughout but always stays captivating.

Seeing us out soon after is Eduardo de la Calle’s remix of the latter. The Cadenza man is well versed in all things deep and dextrous, and his interpretation serves up a fitting example of his talents. Although it starts on a melodic tip, it too soon brings the listener on a thoroughly captivating but unexpected journey. Much like the rest of this EP, De la Calle’s remix is full of surprises from the off.

Grammy-nominated producer Nic Fanciulli joins Radio Slave’s Rekids this February with two thumping cuts entitled ‘Understand’.

Having appeared before as a remixer of Radio Slave’s seminal ‘Grindhouse’ in 2012, Saved Records founder Nic Fanciulli now finally joins the Rekids imprint for the first time with original material. Highly regarded for holding residencies in some of the biggest super clubs in the world like Ibiza’s Space and Pacha, the longstanding British DJ is also responsible for four legendary BBC Radio 1 Essential Mixes. His production distinction spans to a revered Grammy nomination at the age of only 26 for Best Recording Remix as part of Buick Project, to his acclaimed debut album 'My Heart' with collaborations alongside the likes of British Rock legend Damon Albarn.

The title track opens the release with submarine-like bleeps chiming over a mysterious voice repeating “understand”, while a growling bass dives deep beneath a thundering drum groove. On the flip, ‘Where U At’ features mesmerising vocal cries that flutter between upbeat stabs and bouncy percussion that expertly bolsters a driving low end.

Fanciulli’s arrival on Rekids follows a strong 2018 for the label featuring appearances from Butch, Mark Broom, Nocow, Sebo K and SRVD (Matt Edwards & Patrick Mason).

Exclusive WhoMadeWho & Ruede Hagelstein 'Violently Happy'

Watergate 26 comes from no others than Jeppe Kjellberg, Tomas Barford and Tomas Høffding, better known under their WhoMadeWho moniker. The Danish trio, founded in 2003 in Copenhagen, has delivered seven albums as well as several singles and remixes since their first appearance, so consequently the 26th installment of Watergate's renowned mix-series includes a variety of own works or cooperations with artists such as Ruede Hagelstein or Artbat but, of course, also takes and edits from other producers and WhoMadeWho favorites. While WhoMadeWho's Watergate 26 Mix, a 87-minute reflection of the trio's current musical being, was out April 5th, 2019, the time has now come to release a couple of musical pieces from the mix in full length and glance. As the tracks 'Closer', a cooperation with Artbat, and 'Montserra (Artbat Edit)' were already released in mid-April, the first full EP, consisting of eight exclusive tracks, will see the light of day shortly.

The first cut on the EP is WhoMadeWho's cooperation with Berliner Ruede Hagelstein called 'Violently Happy', a Björk cover and a paradox but only in its track title, as the take in general, despite the fact that four people worked on it, is a harmonious achievement that depicts several musical influences of the musicians. 'Violently Happy' covers the musical range and depth evoked by the hunting vocals which are supported by a seemingly funky bass line. With 'Violently Happy' WhoMadeWho's musical circle is completed, for this very moment, as the first tracks the band became famous for, had been cover-songs too.

Watergate 26 EP #1 will be released on Watergate Records May 6th, 2019.

DJ/Producer and Permanent Vacation label co-founder/owner Benjamin Fröhlich is back on Torture the Artist, two years after his first interview to talk about many things, but mainly the time between then and now - just about the same time it took to entertain an idea of making an album, through to its fruition. Less than a week away from the release of his nine-tracker Amiata on his label, the (still) Munich based artist recalls his musical influences, and his recent production process, expresses some thoughts on what has changed and much about what remained the same, and even reveals an exciting plan due out in the tangible future (spoiler alert not to be missed here). 

Benjamin Fröhlichs's album 'Amiata' will be released on Permanent Vacation, May 10th, 2019.
