Decoded Sundays Presents Searchlight

Freedom to Create is our six-part talk show broadcasting from Berlin-based radio station Refuge Worldwide.

The bi-monthly episodes explore themes of identity, migration and music creation through hour-long interviews curated and moderated by Chloe Lula.

On the third episode of Freedom to Create, Chloe Lula interviews Ukrainian-American artist Alinka. The producer and DJ—who is currently living in Berlin—immigrated to the US in the late ‘80s with her family, who lived as Jewish refugees in Chicago. Alinka eventually became a resident at Smartbar and began collaborating with Hercules and Love Affair’s Shaun J Wright, with whom she started the Twirl parties and label. Alinka has released on labels like Rekids, Crosstown Rebels, Need Want, Permanent Vacation, Harry Romero’s Bambossa Records and her newly launched second imprint Fantasy Life. She’s a regular DJ at Berghain. She and Chloe discuss the war in Ukraine, her experience growing up far afield from her roots and the healing power of music in times of personal and collective crisis.

Freedom To Create 03 - Alinka

We're teaming up with Spin Sum on new mini podcast series. Event curators Spin Sum have launched a new podcast series focused on our history, future and inner workings.

The mini-series will include three episodes, each with a key figure representing fabric, hosted by Willer Spin Sum’s own Creative Director. Spin Sum made their fabric debut on 24th June 2022 alongside Jonas Rathsman, MAGA and Re.You, putting on a curated Room 3 takeover.

Episode 1 of the mini-series features a conversation with co-founder Cameron Leslie who discusses the origins and history of the club. Episode 2’s guest is Creative Director Jorge Nieto, who deep-dives into potential future plans, and how fabric itself is becoming much more than just a venue. Finally Episode 3 features a discussion with our own resident DJ Anna Wall, offering a glimpse into the world of EC1 from the eyes of an in-house DJ.

Sltryp Ursuit - pronounced Solitary Pursuit - is the alter ego of Lebanese artist Sam Karam. Having been in the London DJing circuit for almost 7 years, as well as formerly working as a station assistant on Threads Radio, he's picked up a knack for weaving different sonic styles into his mixes and delivers psychedelic punchy beats on his contribution to our mix series

The release of his debut album "Sorrow Carves" paved the way for more bookings at venues such as Colour Factory, Phonox and E1. Often while remixing other's tracks, 2 remixes appear on the EP from his artist name and his alter ego. There is no official release from this moniker, but as ever, we wait and see what the artist has in store for us.
