Maria Kohler AKA @KITTYCRIMES and I got together for a collaboration. This song has a call and response, A/B, vibe going for it, she sang the first half through a megaphone and I sang the second. 
This is the first song on the B Side of déCollaboratory, the vinyls out Friday at Moe's BBQ.

"Most of these songs have been written for years. When I joined the band in 2016, deCollage was going through a transformation. As the formation settled into Reed, Adrian Wright (drums and Percussion) and I (Synths, Synth Bass), we began to strip all the songs Reed had for years and completely rearrange them to fit the new iteration of deCollage. When we started to record, we wanted to try and capture the live spontaneity of Adrians drums and my synth bass. We decided to start by recording our live arrangements at Catadawn Studios here in Denver. From that session we pretty much only kept the drum takes and began to build the arrangements from there. Reed and I started to fill these songs with every synth part and tone we could imagine at Moon Magnet Studios. Adrian filled in the drums with crazy atmospheric percussion sounds with his sensory percussion. Somewhere along the road we got the insane synth and guitar tones of Kris Becker to sprinkle on the top of what we had been working on for a few years. Our honorary member Sean Culliton from my other band Retrofette played Saxophone. Jamie Nagode (Snarklet) recorded vocals on the singalong section of the song." ~ Ben Weirich

If Birds Gathered Our Hair For Nesting

We created this 10min soundtrack loop to accompany the visual artworks of Andrea Thurber & her team in the Ruptured Time room at Meow Wolf Denver, Convergence Station. In this piece, we explore feelings of nostalgia and our relationship to memories, fractured memories, and memory loss. 

Once we were clear on the direction and overall feel of the piece, we sat down to start recording and things came flowing out. We recorded percussion using found objects in our space at Moon Magnet studios, tracking layers of polyrhythms that could be mixed and matched to create different grooves and textures. We searched for samples of footsteps, clocks, water - anything that could be used percussively and connect the listener to nostalgic memories. After we put together many different beats, Ben Weirich composed synth parts to encompass a large envelope of feeling. His goal was to keep the piece fairly happy sounding, while moving through events that remind us of sadness, melancholy, or fear. We were inspired further by the audio recordings from Andrea’s family video, which she has incorporated into the visual elements of the room. With Andrea’s permission, we were able to use sound clips from the videos, with two generations of kids experiencing life’s joys in the way only kids can. Once we had the clips placed, we added samples of morning birds, crickets, fireworks, wind, and thunderstorms. This gave our looping soundscape the feeling of a summer day’s cycle. 
We hope that those who hear our sound piece, paired with the surrounding visual/ interactive artwork, will experience nostalgia in a new way, whether it be through sound, touch, taste, smell, or visual cues. We also hope to bring awareness to how nostalgia may be experienced by someone who’s memories are fractured or difficult to access.

If Salvador Dali’s paintings came to life, they would sound like DeCollage; a kaleidoscopic avant-pop band creating space for imagination. Their upcoming 4th album transports the listener into the psychic depths of a bouncy house exploding with bubble blowing glitter fairies wearing rainbow lipstick. Called the "grandchildren of Elephant 6" by Impose Magazine, they've brought their playful surrealism to stages shared with of Montreal, Dan Deacon, Animal Collective, and Deerhoof since their inception in 2009 (Denver). In 2020, their collaborations with Naytronix from tUnE-yArDs were released in the form of two music videos. Blurring barriers, at Red Rocks & Meow Wolf they handed out a seemingly infinite supply of googly eyes and fed oysters to the audience. Meow Wolf liked it so much that they hired déCollage to score a permanent 10min loop for one of their rooms.

The band’s previous album was released in partnership with Misra Records and Sub Pop Licensing. Charting at #16 on CMJ Radio, Magnetize is a spirited, collaborative album spanning over 20 artists across multiple genres including members of Sound of Ceres, Ancient Elk, Rubedo, Rose Quartz and many more. Like a space blanket, their live shows warm any heart.
