Deep Inspiration Show Records proudly presents Family Things Vol. 2, the second instalment of the various artist 12” series focusing on the inner circle of our global family. 

Assembled as always with love, the release features welcome contributions from friends and collaborators from Germany, Croatia, South Africa, USA and Scotland. 

A1. Our friend Jan Kincl, the Zagreb-based producer, opens the record with Daylight (You Are My), a beautiful slow-burning track that doesn’t hide a serious nod to the original ‘hi tech soul’ blueprint. In line with his previous work, the track touches on the space where techno, house and jazz collide. 

A2. Detroit’s Alton Miller steps up with an ear-catching remix of Daylight. Aside from being there at the dawning of house music, Alton’s subsequent work has secured his status as one of the Motor City’s finest artists. Masterful work on the keys and an infectious groove cast Daylight in a completely new context. 

B1. The flipside starts with Wolford Heifer, aka Ntshabeng Donald Motseo aka Gary Hattenberger, the Limpopo-born producer now based in Johannesburg. The talent behind the Dirty Analog Records label delivers the curiously-named Odd Socks, a warm and organic deep house track featuring Inner Shift Music’s Brad Peterson on flute and keyboards. 

B2. Closing the EP are Johannesburg’s Benklawk and Mabutana, also known as Tebogo Skhosana & Buti Messiase. Having released last year on Do It Now Recordings they now step forward here for DISR with Damage Control, a seriously deep and murky house cut that’s perfect for those hazy late-night moments.

Vienna 2009; Whizz Vienna, an Austrian musician is nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the category ‘Album of the year’. At first he didn’t really understand why but his album ‘Versager ohne Zukunft’, which he produced in collaboration with Kamp, eventually turned into an all time classic.

Even though he has released several projects since then, such as the renowned ‘Wiener Staub’ Beat-LP, it has become rather quiet around the producer. His studio existence and musical creation has more or less turned into dust.

Darmstadt 2020; during a thorough tidying up of old hard drives a folder labeled ‘Whizz Vienna Beatz’ has experienced a musical renaissance. The dopeness of the material is undeniable to this day and that kind of freshness cannot just be left in digital wasteland ready to rot.

Searching for the missing Whizz Vienna was more challenging than expected due to the fact that he enjoys his own presence to be buried in the underground. In the end, the hidden asset has been uncovered, plans have been cultivated and now after two years of waiting the final product is ready to be launched.

B2. The Mechanical Man - She Got Love For Me

"Late summer evening, Malta, I was hanging around in the streets of Valletta, when all of a sudden, in a random, tiny, sloping street, an 84' neon sign appeared in the distance....CINEMA.
 What's this place? I thought, as I love unobvious spots, with a bit gloomy light, places that seem to be forgotten, but still keep this unspoken spirit hiding, and you can feel that. 
It was just opposite the old school vinyl records shop. It was open.... so I entered. And...with that step, I was literally taken into the past. 
The old 8mm and 16mm projectors, cinema posters from the 50's, 60's or 70's, obscure red light, a small cinema room with a couple of people inside. 
"Hi. What would you like?" - said the lady at the bar. I spotted some nice maltese wines in the fridge. "A glass of that white, please". 
And as I was sitting there, sipping wine, watching some random movie, suddenly I heard music. "Ok, this moment cannot be forgotten" - I realized.
This podcast is a capture of that moment, filtered via my own imagination and the love of Polish jazz and old films I have.
