I’m actually thrilled about this new mixer. He’s only done about 200 mixes on the platform but he’s got around 60 repeat clients and I didn’t need many revisions cos’ the 1st mix I got back actually resembled…something decent! I believe in the intro the horns are playing some modes of the Hirayoshi scale as well as the 3rd mode of the Kumoi scale. Yes, all scales found in the Exotic Scales lesson I learned. I was eagerly awaiting some Chinese scales but …there were none. Bunch of Japanese ones and Indian ones though. Does make it more Japanese and more Nujabes leaning although I’m not sure if he uses them or not.Bass lines are doing some bebop stuff sometimes and I think I’m having the passing notes not land on the main beats. So Coltrane changes-basically a major 3rd away and you can add the jazzy ii-V-I relationship to them which is done here at times. For the chorus it’s an rnb progression of 4-3-6-2. Kind of different choruses each time making it ‘progressive.’ For the lead guitar there is a 6/9 arpeggio in there. 6/9. hehe. Then for the bridge a sped up section (with counterpoint for the strings) influenced by ‘last Confession’ with DJ scratches that I edited to fit the rhythm. Last horn section for the last chorus is double harmonic major scale. So lots of things we tried for the first time. Temporary album art as one of my other listeners is designing the official cover.

Lyrically it borrows the first lines of ‘Last Confession’ by Hilltop Hoods. My fave Aussie hip hop group. The story of the sample is that one of my listeners msged me and wanted me to include an audio clip. I said I was working on a chill hop tune so that is great timing. I thought he was a she cos’ of the vocal tone and then he sent me the real story behind it.
