Using small wooden flutes, indigenous percussion and other small folk instruments, Brazilian producer Kurup creates deep folkloric sounds inspired by the natural environment around him, something he describes as 'Selva eletrica' (Electric Forest). The land to which he refers is Cerrado, an area of Brazil that is home to over 160’000 species of plants, fungi and animals. It is within this setting that Kurup’s music comes to life.

I spoke to Renato Rocha (aka Kurup) about producing a mixtape for us and I’m thrilled to present his brilliantly curated organic sounds on Métron Musik Mixtape 018 - a sonic blend of slow house, techno, dup, trip-pop all filtered through the cultural origins of Renato and his ancestors. It’s easy to imagine the rich and diverse Cerrado savannah as Kurup takes the reigns on a bustling journey through the wild open expanses of his sonic space. With a number of unreleased tracks of his own and appearances from a variety of esteemed peers (Nicola Cruz, El Búho, Barda to name a few), it’s a deep, sensual and immersive experience from start to finish.

His excellent debut EP 'Macaúba' was released through the awesome São Paulo based record label, Tropical Twista Records. Renato is currently a resident DJ in Delírio Tropiquente and is the founder of an Art collective called Gira Lume in his hometown Brasília, Brazil. Sacred fog, approaching with tremendous speed moves on a rough lands of ''Las Montañas De Pico Blanco'' in Costa Rica...Stretching between the branches and leaves of plants like crystal threads of a web, pranayama shrinking and expanding it becomes even more viscous, obscuring sun, already vanished in the expanses of space...

The wise say that this once timid phenomenon around a century ago, spawned two mysterious spirits...The first was deaf because of the fact that at the time of its occurrence, he caused a rumble of thunder, which deprived him of one of the senses...Second, asked to make him blind because he was constantly persecuted by creating endless questions visions...Since those very mysterious days they live deep in the jungle, gradually destroying all their passions and desires, thereby purifying...

Time turns back, wind, levitating blowing out bonfires and shakes the trees, serving as shelter in their transformation, water, rising into the atmosphere already striving to once again be turned to the ground by a shower stream, but somewhere in the parallel universes these two Spirits communicate with each other with the help of music, vibrational figures are formed, illuminating their paths in search of a home...

The first time Mente Organica's tunes came to our ears we were just going wow......

Born in Colombia, music flew out of the Andes directly into his blood. Since then his heart and mind is feeded by endless creativity and beauty.

We love how he builds bridges between traditional South American music and modern electronic Music, switching fast, playing with the tempo, his flutes and the Guitar. Real, joyful and deep.

It got really interesting when we involved Ninze & Okaxy, Daniel Imhof and Anton Feine & Colour you Mind into his Music. All of them created very unique Reworks gliding with the shadow of the condor.
