Dummy’s newest release comes from west London-based producer Cadenza and NYC-based rapper Deena Jonez.

Two years ago, the Dummy crew were in Sonar catching British reggae stalwart David Rodigan’s set when one head-rush of a track in particular caught their ears. Dancehall-inflected banger The Darkest Hype turned out to be the work of 23-year-old, west London based Cadenza, and it had our attention from the start.

Not too long afterwards the track was made available to buy from the Dummy store along with a remix from Om Unit’s footwork-loving alias Phillip D Kick, where it was in time discovered by Brooklyn rapper Deena Jonez. She then laid a vocal down over the top and released it on her mixtape ‘Famously Unknown’.

In the intervening two years, Cadenza’s leapt from strength to strength, producing two tracks on Ryan Leslie’s upcoming album, getting air time on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show and signing to Diplo’s Mad Decent imprint.

Now, Dummy are pleased as punch to be releasing Deena Jonez’s vocal-led version of the track for summer 2013. Get hyped by streaming the new single below, and watch this space for remixes from Parisian dub maestro Moresounds and the 15-year-old, G.O.O.D Music-affiliated Wondagurl.

The Darkest Hype ft. Deena Jonez [Released on Dummy Records 15th July - Vinyl + Digi]

Deena jonez has been paving her way in the underground hip hop scene for some time now. Making a name for herself early in her career as a battle rapper then coming into her own determined  to create her own lane in a industry that has very little options for female hip hop artist. After losing her mom to cancer in 2006 Deena took a break from music not knowing if she wanted to continue going down that road without her best friend and biggest supporter, but knowing that her mom spent her last days on earth grinding to make her dream a reality she knew that  quitting would mean all that hard work was done in vain. For the next 6 years she honed her craft by performing all over NYC, traveling, releasing mix tapes (Memoirs Of a Libra, Brooklyns Finest, Electronic Dreams, generic Nightmares, Famously Unknown), and working with a few major artist.  In 2012 Deena found out she had cancer and had to go hard in preparation for her biggest battle. The fight for her life.  Two weeks after releasing her last mix tape "Famously Unknown" Deena went in for surgery. Within this time she was contacted by a label in London and was offered the opportunity to have the song "The Darkest Hype" released as an official single overseas. Three surgeries and one year of chemo treatment later Deena Jonez is officially back and ready to do what she loves!
