Captain Panic! & Systek - The Monolith

It's no secret we're living in the age of blisteringly loud, predictable EDM drops, cliché trends and false prophets.  Un-original, plastic dance music is gobbled up by the masses and highly conceptualized, modern albums are becoming extinct in the electronic music scene. Music should be about more than just a huge drop, it should tell a story, and take you on a journey.  Lucky for us, there are some artists out there that are doing just that, and we couldn't be happier.  Captain Panic! and Systek have come together to compose "The Monolith", a 12 track epic score that goes well beyond the EDM boundaries, deep into the realms of Sci-Fi soundtrack!  The Monolith captures the very essence of the dark, haunting, power of the unknown catapulting us deep into the story line of a future world, a distant universe, another dimension in time and space.  Let yourself go, The Monolith beckons you, let it become the soundtrack of your own imagination.

Dear Listener, 
finally my Fusion set 2023 is here.
This Festival is very dear to my heart. I have been playing there since almost 20 years and it’s a space where I feel a special artistic freedom.
The political background of the festival reflects back into my set and inspires me over and over to new musical journeys.
This set flies from 85-170 BPM and across genres and messages.
My gratitude goes out to Fusion festival, to the amazing crowd, to all artists who provide me with inspiration and music.

Today we have a very special mix from the legendary German DJ and Producer Sascha Funke. A kind of techno that sways between the polarity of emotional overload and concrete rationale – hence immediacy, is what Sascha Funke is all about.

As a twelve year-old Sascha listens to a lot of euro-dance-pop.His first purchased record after the fall of the wall was "Technotronic Mega Mix". A couple of years later he makes his first contact with techno and house thanks to Marusha's radio show 'Rave Satellite'. Being a regular listener results in Sascha buying his first techno record 'The Seawolf' (Underground Resistance).

Wenn Ich nicht hier bin...

Dear Listeners, 
It’s been overwhelming how many of you have written and asked for this year’s Fusion set.  One person even counted the weight of the tears he had shed every time he came here, and found the set was not online yet. So why did it take so long? 
 
It was a very intense four hour set at the Palapa, and it was a very intense week before that. To go back and revisit those moments required quite a bit of strength, which I didn’t have until now. Obviously the intensity of revisiting those moments at the Palapa had a lot to do with the death of our dear friend Bas Engels. 
You might think that I'm loco for saying this, but I know Bas was there with us, celebrating life and death, guiding me through the set and even creating some magic, when my computer froze and I had to restart it, while improvising on a drum machine. Normally the recording would be lost then, but this time it was just there as if nothing had happened. Without him you wouldn’t be able to listen to this now. 
I want to thank Bas for the special magic he created on so many occasions.  Also I want to thank Eule and his team for their foresight and faith to pull me slightly out of my comfort zone, and into this perfect Sunday morning setting. And, of course, I also want to thank all of you, because 
music sounds better with you.
