Alex Niggemann has had an established name within the international dance scene for quite some time now. The German DJ and producer is often described as persistent, stubborn and straight forward, showing how much he truly cares about his music and the scene at-large.

We sat down with Alex for a relaxed and open talk about the life of a DJ, AEON and Soulfooled, festivals, and his vision for the underground scene. Athea may be a new beginning for James Dutton, but his dance music roots run deep. Half man, half motherboard since he learned to weave a wire as a bairn, Athea speaks the language of technology and bends it to his musical whim.

Expertly crafting emotion and rhythm from a synthetic world, Dutton’s productions have support from the heavyweights. Deep and dark house with a groove that runs through you like a current, his tunes have been snapped up by Gregor Tresher’s Break New Soil, Alive recordings and Great Stuff. Tunes like ‘Dancing With Strangers’ and ‘Tesla’ found their way to crowds through Marco Carola, Sasha, Steve Lawler, John Digweed, with Richie Hawtin regularly opening sets with ‘Kepler' for a summer.

A decade percolating deep within the music industry and a lifetime of musical appreciation stands behind the Athea. The debut EP out soon on Hot since 82's Knee Deep In Sound Imprint sound marks the beginning of a new phase, which will see Athea spark the life into dancefloors worldwide.

Today, we are proud to premiere the EP's title track; a mesmerizing, hypnotic and progressive bloomer fuelled by snaking saw wave bass sequences, tension building string lines and low-slung drums.

'Extinct Dream Series 002 encapsulates that atmospheric, otherworldly universe, where synths just fly around in a reverb-drenched landscape. 

The sublime new mini album kicks off with the 'Truth Lies Ahead’ where the music kicks off, almost cinematic in feel building in a quiet yet imaginative state. ‘Santore’ builds with a more tribal feel to it incorporating lush uplifting atmospherics and subtle keys. ‘La Luna Ma Mira' has exotic overtones and eastern orient melody flashes, whilst  'Baile De Lobos’ glows with its excellent vibe, hypnotic groove and very warm, rich tones. 'Voices from Within’ goes proper deep melodic tech. Finally, closing out the mini LP is ‘Intrepid' with beautiful countermelodies, a great journey, a great record. 

Brian Cid cut his teeth engineering for a galaxy of music superstars including Wiz Khalifa, MOS DEF & Snoop Dog and you can add Lady GaGa, Bruno Mars and Rihanna to that mix too. Mentored in-house by nonother than Todd Terry. Brian’s status has steadily grown with support from peers including Richie Hawtin, Pete Tong, Sasha, Danny Tenaglia, Claude Von stroke and Mark Knight. His productions and DJ-ing have left an indelible impression on the dance floor constantly taking him around the US and the world.

In a much anticipated return, one of the scene’s most esteemed producers Davide Squillace is back with a ten track album. To be released on Crosstown Rebels this March, Once Upon A Time In Napoli provides an eclectic range of both hard-hitting and introspective productions. This release paves the way for an exciting year ahead with several more releases in the pipeline. 

Prepare to be immediately drawn into the album with effervescent opening track, The Boogie Man. Exploring a range of wooden percussion, Squillace layers up with distant chord synthesis, statement vocal and a sturdy kick. In The Mood For Love follows with an array of drum pad beats developing gradually into an anticipated second drop littered with claps and sitar-esque melodies. Distorted vocals and incredible percussion, provided by Italian drum guru Paki Palmieri , form the basis of Dada Is Back. Fourth track on the album, Napoli Texas, opens with a delicate symbol and floundering bassline. An excellent example of the renowned producer’s dancefloor filling production. Chock-full of wildlife samples, Noah is a thirteen minute cosmos of indigenous experimentation. 

“”Once upon a Time in Napoli” is the story of my twenty years in dance music. The album covers the many textures of this journey, with influences of the early days in Naples to my Circoloco residency in Ibiza. Ranging from the warmth of classic analogue synths to the crisp precision of digital beats” Davide Squillace.

The second half of the album starts off with a solid kick, How We Communicate has an otherworldly feel with gnarled vocals and energetic snares. Carrying on the lively vibe, Vostok isn’t for the fainthearted. Squillace incorporates filthy bass, mad klaxons, cowbells and a whole heap of variety into this exorbitant tune. Onto a slightly more minimal approach, Iron Odyseey is an exploration of sounds from dainty triangles to supernatural sounding samples. The gradual nature of Holy Motors leaves the listener hankering for more. Closing on a high, the final song of the album, The Sin Introducing Telemaco, is a majestic chill out track laced with a subtle melancholy.

Originally from Naples, Davide Squillace has cemented his position as a renowned DJ/Producer since first appearing on the scene back in 2004. A resident of iconic Ibiza institution Circoloco for over ten years, more recently Squillace can be found touring with Matthias Tanzmann and Martin Buttrich as one third of Better Lost Than Stupid. Well-known for his exceptional ability to pair music with visual arts, his “artistic think tank” and record label This And That Lab has provided a number of creatives with a much-needed production outlet, often calling on them for the likes of cover art. The album launches a massive year for Squillace and will be released on DLP and digital download.

Soundsystem, Get Physical are dropping a taster EP from it featuring three fantastic tracks.

All three cuts are originals or remixes by Djuma himself, and that is also the case on the full mix. He is a Norwegian artist known for serving magical tribal groove imbued with deep feelings and melodious rhythms, and that is showcased again on this EP.

Up first he links with Demian Muller featuring Y.O.G.A. for ‘Mamey’, it is a beautifully organic track with spring-like percussion and languid drums overlaid with bird calls and spiritual keys.

Djuma then serves up a Tribal Dub of Robosonic feat. Son Little’s ‘Drowning’, a chunky, dubbed out cut with fat drums and yawning synths that extend to the skies. It’s a wide open and expansive groove and one to get the whole club under its spell.

Last of all, his attention turns to Oliver Schories’ ‘Fields Without Fences,’ which he skillfully flips into a spine-tingling deep house track. The exquisite vocals are left to make their mark up top as a gentle tumble of drums and hits gets your hips swaying down low.

This essential EP is a great window into the fantastic full mix to come.
