So that was the final night at the Paradise Farage. Sadly the club has had to be closed down, demolished and the site turned into a giant lorry park as a result of Brexit. For our last show, we travelled to Ray Mang's studio and streamed live from deepest East London with Mr Mang himself, a Leftside Wobble guest mix and me. Born in Jakarta, in the 80’s @dea-barandana grew up with the sound of Indonesian city pop and new wave. Nowadays he lives in Bali, where he's a resident DJ at Potatohead Beach Club. We had a pleasure to have Dea here in 2019 for NYE playing at Bar da Praia. 

Described by Gilles Peterson as ‘The best DJ I’ve heard in 10 years’, Dea recorded a mixtape for us playing some rare world songs.

For the next instalment of the series I present a winding, evocative mix from Avsluta. I first came across Avsluta's sound through her mix for Rapture Network's 9128.live takeover (https://soundcloud.com/rapturenetwork/avsluta-9128live-15-may-2021) and after listening to more of her mixes for her own ambient-based platform @introspective_electronics, I hit her up for a Deep Mind Music entry. 

Avlsuta's sound is highly immersive: her mix for the series takes listeners through winding cerebral sounds, each track building upon the last, slowly unfolding into a vast expanse of sound. To me it feels like floating in the middle of a still lake at night, looking up at the twinkling stars and crescent moon, adrift and contemplative. We are then washed up onto the shore with trippy bubbling beats, before the mix gently peters out in a blanket of golden warmth. I hope you enjoy listening to this trip as much as I do.

For this ,Transience host, Lou Drago invited friend and collaborator Ligovskoï to explore an emotional space that they have both been interested in, in their productions and Transience's target sound palette. Starting with our sun's frequency, 126,22 Hz, Lou Drago and Ligovskoï speculate about the effect of this specific vibration. Supposing a correlation between the life-giving energy of the sun and its frequency, the artists have created an hour's journey that subtly weaves through the interstices of emotional complexity, landing, hopefully, in a place that leaves the listener rejuvenated and uplifted.

Bypass is a montage of journeys, a series of passing sounds representing the "in-between" and being in the middle of sonic passages. The compositions in the release are created entirely from live recorded and processed audio loops made with electronic instruments, namely the Casio SA-3 keyboard. The looping technique applied during the recording is based on tape looping techniques developed by Brian Eno and Robert Fripp.

In Bypass, loops are processed and refined in real-time during the recording. Audio processing is an integral part of the improvisation and a factor that dictates the direction of the passages heard on the album. Each composition is founded on a singular live performance that is later arranged as a composition by layering segments from the overall recording. The sonic content folds over itself and forms a soundscape that bends the linearity of the performance.

The recording performances are spontaneous and improvised journeys, with the creation process evolving throughout the making. The exploratory approach entailed unpredictability and surprising timbral events. Each track offers something unique, with moods and soundscapes revealed only during the performance and arrangement. In other words, nothing on the album was predetermined or premeditated.

We´re closing the month with 2 sets recorded live at Perpendicular Festival last May plus a live performance by Ameeva performed at Espacio Perpendicular the next week.
Every year in a forest  In the centre of Spain there is a private meeting limited to 180 people with the same purpose as Espacio Perpendicular: the pure enjoyment of underground music. The first live act is by STBL, a wonderful journey that explores subtle ambient territories; after him, Paduan, resident dj at Into the universes parties in Amsterdam, and regular one at Balamii radio in London, carries out a well-driven drone and experimental ambient set. The last hour is for a live performance by Ameeva. A delicate and smooth journey with gentle and hidden melodies, field recordings and ASMR voices

New month new mix.
Ryan Bishop is behind one of the most creative and consistent multi-modal musical platforms out there. Dream Chimney (which hardly needs introducing), was certainly a big inspiration for 5918mins. and we are very happy to have him onboard. 

DJing himself under the name "The Beat Broker", Ryan developed a propensity towards Balearic sounds, which seemed to fit perfectly with the current time of the year. We are also very impressed by Ryan's consistency in digging and playing high-quality newer releases (which only makes sense if one one is interested in the musical, rather than the collectable worth of records).
