There’s no denying it’s been a time of deep reflection, on an individual level for us all and, of course, for our scene and its artists, promoters, agents and you guys and gals. In taking away our dance floors, and so much more, COVID nudged us to review, reflect, reminisce and re-assess, on multiple levels and in numerous ways.

As for us, we’ve certainly thought about the part we want to play in our scene going forward, reflecting on our values and refining our vision. More of this to come.

What’s been going on inside the minds of artists at such a challenging time has been a big curiosity for us. It’s therefore a huge honour to bring you this very special On the 5th Day feature, featuring a beautifully sincere and open written “reflections” from our previous resident and cherished friend, Svreca (aka Enrique Mena), together with a dynamic, raw and truly unique trip down memory lane from the man himself, in the form of an extended segment of his 2014 FRUE performance at Unit in Tokyo.

As you’ll read, Japan holds a very special place in Enrique’s heart and this night, and the creative freedom he experienced was not to be forgotten, for him or the music lovers fortunate enough to be there.

A pure, perfect, dynamic Svreca moment, oozing with originality and the Svreca flair we've grown to love.

Though relatively small in size, the Finnish scene has provided the internationale of techno with some key players over the years, including our next RYC show guest, Samuli Kemppi. Having stacked some impressive releases for the likes of Ostgut-Ton, Mote Evolver, Nonplus, M_Rec and more, the Helsinki-based sound architect’s name has become synonymous with top-of-the-range deep and hi-impact 4x4 DJ wares. Dwelling the subliminal frontier betwixt pitch-dark ambiences, laser-precise rhythmic mastery and an ever-astoundingly minute care for sound design, Samuli’s trenchantly hypnotic style sure lacks no floor-enslaving potency as his new mix for us attests to. "Commanding a space within the deeper realms of techno, vinyl only DJ, producer and record label owner Mary Yuzovskaya has been cultivating her unique orbit in the electronic dance music firmament for over 16 years.

Starting her journey as a DJ in the mid-2000s, Mary found herself in Berlin, where she received recognition for both her blisteringly-precise vinyl-only techno sets and her painstakingly professional approach to the craft of DJing. After relocating to NYC in 2013 Mary quickly became a key figure in the US scene, performing regularly at different venues including multiple residencies at some of the city’s institutional parties like Unter, where she was a staple for three years, as well as working as a vinyl distribution manager at renowned Brooklyn-based record shop Halcyon. Back in Berlin since 2020, Mary solely runs her very own record label called Monday Off, launched in 2017, where she curates and presses work from artists that explore techno's trippier, more hypnotic side. 

Mary has been busily traveling the world and performing her unique take on techno music’s psychedelic vibes at many noted clubs and parties across the world, including Basement (NY), Berghain/Panorama Bar, Carbone (Paris), Compound (LA), Gare (Porto), IFZ (Leipzig), Kablys (Vilnus), OHM (Berlin), Output (Brooklyn), Rote Sonne (Munich), RSO and Tresor (Berlin), to name only a few. Mary's productions are released on such labels as Kvalia, Mnestic, Semantica, System Revival as well as her own Monday Off imprint."

@johnplazamusic is a Chilean artist, recently established in Barcelona, owner of @linderluftrecords. His sound is characterized by minimalist percussions, continuous atmospheres, breakbeat rhythms and a search for mental travel and movement. Since he started with productions he has released music on labels such as @dosis-records, @furthersessions, @bahnbarcelona, @ancestral-process, @postdynamicrecords, @nferee, @spacetextures, @diffusereality, Obscure Sorrow and @aridorecordslabel.

@bahnbarcelona is a techno collective founded in 2017, organizers of events that combines an exclusive selection of international and national/local artists from the hypnotic techno scene. In the early 2020 they founded BAHN· Records, collective's record label releasing in physical & digital formats, and always illustrating what is the music concept of BAHN·. 

John visited Lolita alongside the Italian deep techno legend @luigitozzi and @absismusic at the BAHN·'s 5th anniversary last January.

Medha is a Leipzig based Dj and promoter as a member of the PVC collective. Since the end of 2021 she is the co-host of the well-known event series aequalis at Ifz. Her passion for technoid music is shaped by her constant search for inspiration and new tracks, which she brings together in her mixes with a mixture of intuition and thought.

Very happy to share with you the recording of my set at Laut for the Extra event of Mostra Festival in Barcelona.
Closing set/2nd act from 02:30 to 05:00am after a great opening from the Czech Barcelona-based DJ Adelia.

The 2,5 hours recording is progressively shifting from Hypnotic Techno and Psychedelic Techno to some more Deep and Driving vibes, until a smooth breaky closing atmosphere to end the party.

Big thanks to the team at @mostrabcn for having me! I had such a great time and @laut_barcelona is definitely on of the best club to mix sound-wise.
