i made this mix on the fly as a sort of promo, before i went up to spin on the ol' island for Summer Heat... in '08, i think. one playthrough to make sure i had all the tracks in, and then one to record.

it's under the "The Insane Suggestion" moniker, because it's not normally what i spin, stylistically or genre...uh...listically. honestly, stylistically speaking, it reminds me of a girl i used to date -- lots of fun, well-constructed, but... lacking in subtlety. *shrug* not that there's anything wrong with that :)

also, for the first time ever, all the songs in this mix were digital in origin... and apparently i misplaced a few of them (digitally speaking), so i had to do some research... both on where they went and what some of them were. but, with 100% accuracy, and also appearing in print for the first time ever: here is the tracklist for it.

DJ Pants pres. the Insane Suggestion - I Rave on Your Face

k so here's the story on this one...

a record store in Dallas went out of business, and my friend, who owned a different record store, bought up a large portion of their stock. in return for helping him categorize like 14 crates of records, i walked away with a full crate of my own sweet sweet vinyl for only $100. w00t!

long story short, i decided the best way to convert the tracks to a more easily listenable format was to just record a mix. this then, is the product of that decision. the really awesome thing about it is that i'd honestly listened to all of these tracks MAYBE once. and certainly none of them the entire way through. i did a quick needle drop on each to categorize them out the first time, and one more time once i got my own crate home, and then jumped right in.

the original full-length mix is about 2hr45min long, and contains a couple of weird areas, which have been edited out to create parts 1 & 2. (one in the middle, where i forgot which row was which genre and just mixed in whatever i picked up before the track ran out [which totally killed the awesome mood i had going], and one towards the end, where i ran out of cohesive genres and just started forcing tracks together... before it all broke down and i accidentally tried to mix some downtempo vocal 2-step into minimal german techno. no you may NOT hear that ;)

being a live, unrehearsed mix of tracks i'd never really listened to before, there are a few shaky bits. but like Cathartic Episode, there are some mixes in here that work SO well, it sounds like they were meant to be together (i say without an ounce of ego that the mix between tracks 10 and 11 is probably the most perfectly constructed unplanned mix ever... having gone back and listened to the full version of Gato Gris, it could have gone SO wrong 8)

given that this mix is completely unrelated both stylistically and genre-listically to anything else i've done, i'd be interested to hear some feedback on this one... it's definitely a late night / rainy day kind of mix in my opinion, but let me know what YOU use it for ^_^
