Hugh McGowan, effervescent spirit and phenomenal musician who started and hosted the open mic at The Burren for years, passed away unexpectedly last week. We had texted around the New Year as I had heard he was playing on a mutual friend's music. I am beside myself with sadness. A close friend of his told me, "He was in a very dark place wrestling with lots of demons and now he's playing rock and roll with Jimi Hendrix. I truly believe he's in a better place now." I love that. That's how I want to think of him - like that, transfigured.

We watch and hear, but need to listen better
To what’s true for the person saying it.

Light slants through the foyer’s white space
