Making their return with further innovative output this Spring is Bucharest based outfit, VARME, a label curated and cared for by, Paul Popa. Crafting the seventh release on the label is the incredibly talented beat maker, Maximo. The Uruguayan’s “XKP” EP meanders through low end leaning electro, and intelligently arranged spaced out techno, rough and ready for the club.  

Title track “XKP” moves in mechanical motions, chugging by as trippy beeps and bleeps make themselves known. Futuristic elements breathing life into the chunky drums. The A2 “Trip To the Moon” teeters on the fine line of techno, and trance, sitting comfortably between the two, blasting you with dusty nostalgia from records of the past but maintaining the modern twist Maximo consistently captures. 

On the flipside delving deeper into the mind of Maximo is “1945” is a sleek and crisp trip, a punchy kick and ice cold hi-hats drive the groove. The vocal sample used fits perfectly, transcending the listener as it continues to flash in and out. Closing 007 is “Sinrazón” a curious journey through shimmering pads and synths, teasing you down a path of mystery with the dark bassline that simmers throughout. 

Solid impressions from a label that continue to propel their distinguished energy, showing no signs of slowing down, continuing to become somewhat of a diggers paradise with their catalogue. VARME are not afraid to push music they believe in, never taking the restraints of genre on their shoulders. Whilst not making music Maximo is helping steer the ship at Deeper, a collective who share their musical vision in their native country of Uruguay.

Lucid dreams are interesting dreams, aren't they? You know you're sleeping and dreaming but still you're dreaming … Though at this point we are sure that YOU are NOT dreaming. Yes, Davis Genuino aka DAVIS is back on Live At Robert Johnson. With his fourth release we might add - more likely a dream come true.
The São Paulo citizen who's part of the ODD queer warehouse-party collective is a central figure to the city's House and Techno scene, running the »In Their Feelings« and »ODDiscos« labels he has always released his music on other labels as well such as Innervisions, Polari Records or Permanent Vacation.
For »Lucid Dreams« Davis is lit indeed as the opening track »Lit« heavily suggests. »Lit« is sheer energy: A high-speed ode to happiness driven by a marvelous bass line and lots of dreamy vibes.
»Satellite 909« takes us on a trip to slightly darker galaxies, yet it keeps the upbeat and uplifting quality Davis started with. This satellite is transmitting with the typical and beautiful aggressiveness of a TR-909 drum machine - mission accomplished.
Title track »Lucid Dreams« is next: Both versions are characterized by a synth motif which spirals upwards and upwards, certainly driving all dancers crazy for the first half of the track - up until the point when Davis releases us poor dancers and listeners after a short break by building this amazing crescendo followed by commanding claps that lead us back to the floor again. With its trancy signature synthwave melodies »Lucid Dreams« has all you've ever dreamed of - and by that we're talking again of dreams come true. Muito obrigado Davis!

To end 2020 we have our first full length various artists release. Ten downtempo tracks by great artists and dear friends from different parts of the world. Europe based Iranian producers Tonnovelle opening with an awesome beat, followed by Uruguayan rising star Stonem, and established talent Santiago Uribe with a new aka. Next Two Phase U exploring a slower pace, Berlin beat deconstruction wizard Matma, and new Colombian talent Adi with a beautiful creation. Back to Uruguay with other strongly rising talent Lo-Lo, followed by an established name in the scene, Jorge Gamarra. Fantastic  producer Phoro gives way to amazing Berlin producer Otis with a soothing two-track ambient closure to the long play.
