During Wildeburg 2022, @HouseofChi hosted a stage on Wildeburg festival for the fifth time. This time we took our residency into the Kas, together with Beeldjutters.

  One of our favourite resident artists, @DeepFilip, will kick-off this new Chi House podcast series with his tremendous live-set from our stage at Wildeburg 2022.

We haven't actually had this in our programme for a while and are therefore very happy to have you with us.

✔️ What is your musical background?

I enjoy dancing a lot. I also played the flute (cliche, I know) and sang in a choir. I have always loved being creative, be it painting or acting or writing. Electronic music has accompanied me for a long time, but only about six years ago I really got immersed in rave culture, which opened a whole new window to joy and freedom to me. It didn't take long that I was encouraged to try to DJ myself by my partner, who already was an experienced DJ by then. He showed me the ropes and about five years ago, I took my first steps at a small private festival, and later in a club in my hometown of Freiburg, where I first helped organize parties and played at lots of afterhours - and where I still regularly host events with my Downtempo collective, MoMo Am Montag. Now I play various styles, slow to fast, not only in Freiburg, but at clubs from South to North, sometimes by myself and sometimes as part of DJ-Duo Lenkrad, together with my partner Konrad.

✔️ What makes good "afterhour"?

Somehow having raved through a night feels like you have now „earned" your afterhour experience: your body is exhausted from all that dancing, but you're still pumped, you also feel every tiny molecule, so full of joy and happiness, and it is these hours that become so magical and memorable. You either completely surrender to the sound all over again and let yourself get hypnotized, or you get involved in a deep conversation with old and new friends. You're slowly landing in reality again, with this reality having shifted, having a weird and wonderous quality. Afterwards, you happily go home and rest, your ears and heart still humming with the melodies of the night before. 

✔️ Do you have any thoughts you would like to share about your set?

As I said, I enjoy playing various styles of music - Downtempo, Deep House, Deep Tech, some Techno. For this occasion, I thought back to the most magical afterhours I had the joy of experiencing: being outside in a forest or a field, the night still lingering, its last sounds echoing. Then the sun breaks through the trees, warming your face, fresh air and wonderful people around you, where you feel safe and cozy. I hope that translates in my set: it's dreamy, and light and friendly, sometimes a tiny bit weird. You can either dance to it or chill. Or whatever you want to do at the afters ;)

This is my closing set from Abracadabra at Ponderosa Ranch, a small boutique festival in the Waikato region of New Zealand. 

Taking place amongst an age old native forest, the sun perfectly on a Sunday evening as the weekend drew to a close and I took to the stage with a certain responsibility to bring a magical weekend to its end. This performance was one of the most empowering shows I’d ever played, a somewhat unforgettable moment.

Heute haben wir Harry Charles mit einem Podcast auf KataHaifisch zu Gast. Genauer gesagt handelt es sich hierbei um ein Live-Set und das Closing für das Abracadabra, ein kleines Boutique-Festival in Neuseeland. 
In einem alten Wald, an einem sonnigen Sonntagabend, hatte Harry Charles die verantwortungsvolle Aufgabe, ein rundum magisches Wochenende zu seinem glanzvollen Abschluss zu geleiten. Dieser Auftritt auf der Ponderosa Ranch war für ihn ein zutiefst inspirierendes Erlebnis. Ein knapp zweistündiger Augenblick, der für immer in Erinnerung bleiben wird.

When Joep asked me to join him at the Amsterdam Dance Event 2018 during a musical ceremony, where we would be DJing accompanied with three talented musicians, my excitement was born. 

Without any preparations or rehearsal we took on this challenge and had an incredible experience. We were not expecting the flow to be so good, but our talented musicians Ute Apfelstedt (Violin, Flute, Voice), Laura Lotti (Harp) and Thomas Kwakernaat (Hangdrum & Contrabass) did an excellent job, fitting in with our DJ set perfectly. 
It was an interesting experience to do the DJ part as well, as on the fly we had to experiment with loops, how much low, mid and high end would be feasible for the other musicians to complement etc.
