For such a long time I wanted to work with Mister V. His output has been a major influence for me. Especially “Jus’ Dance” was a game changer. So I was very happy that the legend Mr. V himself joined in to collaborate on the 3rd Eye EP for our own imprint RISE MUSIC.

We started working on this piece about two years back, when the world was still quite different. DJT was still in charge (?!) in America and there was no pandemic around. Nevertheless Mr. V’s lyrics kept their magic, their timeless touch and somehow became even more relevant.
3rd Eye is about staying true to yourself, not getting overrun by the madness around you and about trying to make the world a better place.
No matter if it is about resisting autocratic, bigot and racist tendencies in the government or crazy conspiracy theories. We all carry responsibilities for the greater good of all of us. We do share the view that a crisis always also provides opportunities: For change and for the better.

My original version carries this tension that we all felt in the last years. The energy culminates in a nervous arpeggio and a catchy acidish hook on top of a quite classic house beat. After pushing you forward with grooves the tune turns into a string ladden ray of light.
The type of mood that we are all so desperately antcipating.
Everyone who’s not so much into spoken words will be happy to hear my stripped down Raw Beat Version. It is quite a bit more groove focused, powerful and with an overall feel that I like to call African Techno.

On top of that I am very happy to have Amsterdam’s William Djoko in the house for two amazing remixes. He delivered exactly his type of groove-laden house and rugged, motor-city techno (sprinkled with his famed frisky footwork of course) that I was hoping for. He is flirting with playful, cut for the club and trippy, mischievous percussions. Pure power!

Sparrow & Barbossa have their highly anticipated album ready to sail the world's oceans, 'Seven Seas' is finally here. One year locked down in the studio has opened their minds to travel to different cultures allowing them to create a unique and colourful debut album.
 
'Quando Te Veo' is the album's first single, a complete reinterpretation of the emblematic song from the all-timers Acid & Nu Jazz gurus, the German Duo, MoHorizons.  The second single is 'E Fura,' a collaboration with one of the most popular Nigerian Afrobeat ambassadors, Dele Sosimi. 'Nyakua' is the contribution of Sparrow & Barbossa's mentor. The Iberican Sound mastermind, Stereo Productions founder, and Redolent head honcho, DJ Chus.  A vocal song by Kenyan favorite singer Idd Aziz. 'Azucar' brings the Latin Flavour to this album with a tribute to Latin Grammy winners and most popular Cuban-Band, Los VanVan. 
Afrikan Rising Star, Berlin-based, Floyd Lavine, is the partner on this studio collaboration titled 'When I'm With You' performed by legendary New York Soulful singer Josh Milan.
The Pirates trimmed sails to Morocco to meet Cee ElAssaad to produce 'Libre,' a freedom ode with the finest female and Spanish vocal.
TOSZ, the multidisciplinary artist, Polish singer, and songwriter, Frankfurt-based,  is the man behind 'Saudades Do Mar.' A Brasilian carnival festivity in the form of a love song. 
'Morena' is the gypsy rumba-fiesta track in this voyage featuring the Spanish singer Vinila Von Bismark. 
The duo passed on a Caribean heading and joined forces with El Chino Dreadlion and VitiYono on 'We Are Not Alone,' a charming Cuban chants track.
'Dream' & 'Back Home' are their private crossovers in the album. 
'Transat L'Antique' is the album's closing track, where Bryan Coletta (Sparrow) involves his father, the world-famous guitar player Francis Coletta. The icing on the cake of 'Seven Seas.'
 
Seven Seas' is a milestone that will set a new course in Sparrow & Barbossa's career. They aim to transmit ancient cultures' roots and democratize World Music through Electronica. 'Seven Seas' is the perfect example, music coming from all cardinal points. The treasures and richness of 'Seven Seas' can't be categorized into one specific genre. 
It has a House Music core and is all about Organic, Latin, and Afro Electronic Dance Music. Now is the time to travel the world spreading the musical message of this 'Infamous-Afro-Latin-House-Pirates Duo.’

Notre Dame releases his debut ep on Inward Records and what a weapon this release is. Featuring three original tracks that have been heavily supported by Pippi Ciez & Sparrow and Barbossa for the past months and also includes a remix from Robin Tordjman to complete the 4 track.

New York based DJ & producer, Francis Mercier aka Emvafaya, has utilised his vastly cultured and seasoned understanding of house music to produce and perform different facets of deep, melodic, and tech-house melded with afro, soul, and disco influences. His ‘Bolingo Nanga’ feat. Bibi Den’s Tshibayi track was one of the highlights on ABRACADABRA’s ‘Human Nature’ compilation album on initial release back in April of this year, and now gets a full single release, backed with remixes from two of the scene’s hottest tickets, Nico de Andrea and Nitefreak. Mercier explains more about the gestation of the song…

“On my last European Tour back in Feb 2020, I had a chance to meet some established African vocalists and musicians such as Magic System, Kanda Bongo Man, Amadou & Mariam, and others, one of which was Bibi Den’s Tshibayi who was at his prime in the late 80s. I always had an affinity for Bibi’s unique, and emotive tone, and upon meeting him in Paris at my performance at Radio FG we clicked and his positive energy impacted me on day one. He really loved my set and simply couldn’t stop dancing and requested that I sent him some beats.”

“As such, upon returning to the US, I sent Bibi the musical backing idea and without any surprise, I received his bone-chilling vocal stems. I immediately went to work, spending early mornings and late nights creating what can be heard right now. This being during prime Covid, the lockdown and the prevention of me performing as much as I normally would have been during this time allowed me to sit down and be remotely available to work with Bibi between New York City and Paris. This project being my first authentic afro house record, with a strong message of Love (which is what “Bolingo Nanga” means), has a deep-seated meaning for me, and will always remain the catalyst and inspiration to have me continue down this beautiful path of afro house music.”

"Love In Times Of Crisis Remixed Pt 1" is the first remix package of Hyenah's debut album.
Some RISE' favorite producers re-interpreted the original collaborations in their very own ways, that we love them so much for: Super Flu, Caiiro, Santiago Garcia and Masšh.

Super Flu picked the Hyenah x Pablo Fierro x Lazarusman collaboration "The Balance" and turned it into a powerful club anthem - in their super signature sound.

Caiiro twisted Hyenah x Nanghitis "Your Love" from a NYC style Classic House tune into a melancholic and deep Afro House monster, which lets Nanghitis voice shine in a completely different way - Caiiro style!

Santiago Garcia took on "The Rite", a collaboration of Hyenah and Ernesto & The Basement Gospel. He switched it up with his quirky secret SG spices. We really don't know how to label his version. It doesn't matter though since it's bringing the heat.

Last but not least, we got Masšh, one of South Africa's brightest rising stars. What he did to the G-Wash10 x Hyenah collaboration "Rain Queen" is African energy at its best. Wait until you hear this one out loud.

Afro House DJ of the year Da Capo!

Midi Minds Kenya in conjunction with The Safari Collection, Backdrop Agency & Madorasindahouse travelled to Samburu National Conservancy to capture and highlight the musical identity of the Samburu warriors, women and children, in the form of a song based sample pack, a documentary format video, and a Various Artists music compilation (VA).

This project is set out to raise awareness, financial ability and cultural highlight towards the Samburu tribe and community, through using selected Recordings for the production of this 19-track compilation. It features productions by Laolu, Armonica, Da Capo, Caiiro, Shimza, Umami and many more, as well as local Kenyan talent, such as Suraj, Saint Evo, Foozak & Dylan-S.

After visiting the Westgate area of Samburu, and discussions with the community leaders, we found the most common day to day issue they face is lack of educational infrastructure. We firmly believe that this is a cause worth advocating for.

The community is not able to establish a sustainable educational system and that is why part of the proceedings will go towards building a class-room in the primary school and provide sustainable contributions to the teachers fund. The whole process will be part of a documentary that will be released along with the Compilation, in an event held in Nairobi, Kenya on the 30th of November 2019.

DHSA Premiere: Da Capo - Land of Cush [Madorasindahouse]

29 May 2020, Johannesburg; After a successful 2019 of being crowned Best Afro House DJ 2019 by the DJ Awards Ibiza, his album Indigo Child reaching platinum status and a total of 36,5 million streams. Da Capo is set for new heights as an independent artist under his recently formed record label Genesys. His upcoming EP also titled Genesys is now available for pre-order and set for release across all music platforms on 29 May 2020.

At his former record label Soulistic Music its business as usual as they continue to release all Black Coffee music, while Da Capo is serviced by Soulistic Agency a talent and events management agency, also a Black Coffee owned company. The name Genesys signifies a new beginning in Da Capo’s career; the title of his new 7 tracks EP and the name of his record label. This EP features artist’s such as pianist Nduduzo Makhathini, Marissa Guzman, and Batundi. Fans can expect club bangers such Thin Cali clouds and Yehla Moya (a King Fela remix with Nduduzo Makhathini and Omagugu) which they’ve heard in his performances in the past months.

Da Capo’s real name is Nicodimus Sekheta Mogashoa, born and raised in Seshego, Limpopo. He describes his undeniable talent for music as a God given talent that comes to him as a 6th sense. The 29 year old record producer and DJ is celebrated a legend in the house music fraternity around the world for his versatile skill to produce & remix house music by the likes of Nick Holder & Black Coffee.

The EP opens up with Thin Cali Cloud, a chunky, bass driven house track with lush pads that bring a dark vibe. Ujir then brings an afro vibe filled with soul, upbeat kicks and lively percussion next to tribal chanting. Sweet Dreams is layered with whining string sounds and clacking hits over a meandering, hypnotic beat then Moyo Wangu gets you in a trance with its lush sunset chords and angelic vocals layered over exotic house grooves.

Dance Away The Pain is a darker, more menacing late night track to carry you into the night and Yehla Moya (Da Capo & Nduduzo Makhathini Remix) then pumps a driving groove with spiritual vocals ringing out up top and taking you on a real world adventure. Last of all Orion's Belt is another rolling and hypnotic tune with dreamy chords draped over rolling grooves.

Us. A journey through self doubt and personal compromise. How many times have you given up a part of who you are to please society? You may be whomever you want to be, as long as you let me be whomever I want to be in return. Tibor Dragon takes us on a journey through his own interpretation of self expression and freedom of personality in this dance floor destroyer.

Strangers. The story of a love so deep that death itself could not break its bounds. VieL spent a portion of his life crafting this work of groove and majesty just for us to consume. We will forever be grateful.

Droplets. The sonic manifestation of rain. A life giving act of God that is the truest form of art the world could ever hope to encounter. Random fact: KBB have each honoured us with an offering from beyond time and space. An ode to the beauty and divinity within art and an expression of movement that only a conscious human being could afford to experience at full intensity.

Allow yourself to be transported, forget status quo and every normality ingrained into your psyche. Instead, replace them with the pure creativity and endless universal exploration within these masterpieces.
