His last collaboration with Fantastic Friends was in 2020 on the label's tenth anniversary compilation. You will also find him soon with a remix of the track "Nipia" taken from Nicolas Duvoisin's forthcoming album.

The Timisoara-based duo has totally shaped the current sound, adding to the classic minimalistic groove structure a good dose of pulsating basslines, emotional synths and easy-to-dance-to elements. Over the last 10 years or so, they've released loads of beauties on labels such as PIV, Bondage, AdMaiora, Organic, Djebali and their own Sintope, which has rapidly become the perfect home base to showcase the "NTFO" sound. @mihai-popoviciu-1, from #Sibiu in #Romania, is considered one of the most innovative eastern European producers of electronic music today. He was born in Romania in 1981 and was drawn to the fast-growing rave scene of the 90’s. He started producing music in 2001 being influenced by the techno and house virus and it took many years of experiments untill he came up with his first vinyl release on @gigolorecords by @djhellofficial in 2005. Since then he has steadily added chapters to his personal success story with solo projects and those with partners like @markushomm or @jaybliss. In June 2007, his EP "First Contact" was released on @levelnonzero by @pascalfeos. Mihai joined the @highgrade-records family together with Markus Homm in late 2007 and from then on the duo have had several successful releases on the Berlin based imprint like “Deaf Sniper”, “Lagoon” or “Urban Ballroom”. In 2009 the discographic activity of Mihai got very intense with releases on highly respected european labels such as Fear Of Flying, @huddtraxx, Bang Bang or @diynamic-music. The club hit Bis Co (produced together with Markus and Jay Bliss) was featured in all major dance charts across Europe and confirmed once again his fine producing skills. When teaming up with Jay Bliss the duo call themselves Hermannstadt Collective, a dj and producing team that has made big waves on the dancefloors all over the world with tracks like “Raw Fruit”, “Thirst Day” or “Safety Match”. Mr. Popoviciu is the kind of producer that likes to innovate and to allways refine his varied sound pallette surprising the audiance in the best way.
It’s not a big surprise that Mihai’s reputation as a DJ grew fast in the past years taking him to Europe’s most important clubs and venues. His flavourous dj sets have a distinctive peronal touch delivering you a perfectly balanced mixture of groovy beats, warm pads and musical emotiones that will get you addicted.

🔛 Got no words to say how grateful we are for having such a big name in minimal/deep house music industry featuring on our Musik LAB podcast sessions. 

👀 Every artist has a signature. Mihai Popoviciu   is no exception. For over a decade the amiable Romanian producer and DJ has built a body of work characterised by deep grooves, crisp precision, and irresistible energy.
 Mihai's singular vision was born in his home town Sibiu (still his home base) which, at the time, lay on the fringes of Europe's thriving dance scene. It was the early '90s. Electronic music was flooding London, Ibiza, Berlin but only a trickle reached his ears. "We would tape German TV shows onto cassette and listen over and over," he recalls.
 With no clubs, record shops or dance culture to speak of Mihai's dream of being an electronic artist seemed remote. He studied architecture and briefly worked in the field, but it was house and techno, not house-building, that was his true calling . "I couldn't DJ, because there were no clubs," he says with a chuckle. But he could buy software, so he started making records. Lots of records. Sometimes one per day, for months on end. The work of the determined young artist began to catch people's ears. His first track was signed to International Deejay Gigolo in 2005, and dozens of releases followed on imprints including Bondage, Highgrade, Poker Flat, Bedrock, Dessous and also his own label Cyclic, established in 2012.
 This calm determination became Mihai's trademark as his career blossomed from production to DJing. After honing is skills in the studio he learned to DJ (on borrowed decks) and began drawing attention in Romania and across Europe. Playing international gigs was a big move for someone who grew up only seeing clubs on TV but Mihai stepped up with professional aplomb. His CV now includes the best clubs in Europe and around the world, from Berghain and Watergate in Berlin; to London's Fabric and The Egg; to D-Edge, São Paulo; DC-10, Ibiza; and more.
 Mihai's ambition with every track and every DJ set, is to transmit the joy and energy that fuels his dream. "It feels great to see people dancing, smiling, having a good time. No matter what I do, that's the main thing."
 He is equally at home in underground clubs or on festival stages. The one thing that stays the same is his artistry and irresistible delight in music. "Mihai was on his sound from the beginning," says friend and booking agent Benny Grauer. "It has a unique quality. Any time you hear it you know, "That's Mihai". He's done it for years, and it is perfect."
