Nohan is a music lover with a deep fondness for connecting sound and spirituality. He explores many facets of sound originated from the Far East, inspired by tribal percussion, and produced with hypnotizing synths and organic elements.
His studio is an inspirational home for street performers, singers, musicians and producers that spend their days searching for emotions that can be captured into songs.

This month on the Inara podcast, we are featuring some of my favorite tracks by my favorite Producer and DJ duo, Bedouin. This is an hour long mix compiled of Bedouin originals, remixes and edits they’ve composed over the years.

Growing up, from a middle eastern family and around middle eastern culture, I was always listening to arabic music all the time. However, being born and raised in America, as an Egyptian-American, it felt like I didn’t really truly connect with my family’s culture and I also felt like some of an outcast in American culture as well. I made many friends, however, there was a part of me that did not feel fully accepted by my peers. I listened to house music on the regular growing up and attended many dance parties because I felt the most welcomed in those spaces. 

Still, the music didn’t quite hit me in the .. f e e l s .. in all the ways music is capable of doing. It was not until I discovered Bedouin for the first time back in 2014/15 and it felt like I FINALLY found the music I was in dire search for  — in my mind, I finally found the artists that bridged these two worlds of my Middle Eastern and American cultures. Their music then led me down to path to find other artists that have similar elements in their music, such as Viken Armen, LUM, Satori, Pablo Fierro, Nick Warren, Black Coffee, Lost Desert, Lee Burridge, Oceanvs Orientalis and more. 

Finding these artists finally gave me the confidence to really dive deep into my own creativity, to begin my journey as a DJ and learn how to produce my own music, which is a skill I am actively developing and cultivating. Which, if I'm being honest, you never really stop learning. 

I am super excited to bring you episode 21 of Inara, the Bedouin Tribute.

About the Artists:

Originally formed in Brooklyn and now based in Miami, Bedouin is production & DJ partnership between nomads Tamer Malki and Rami Abousabe who are creating their own idiosyncratic spell of melody sand rhythms. Together they share an eclectic sonic vision that pulls from diverse influences owing to their Middle Eastern heritage, Western upbringing, and world travels. Their combined musical backgrounds and ever-evolving taste captures the sensibility of imagination and constantly explores the connection between ourselves and the future.

Born and raised in Montreal, Mitch Oliver is an emissary for the burgeoning east coast melodic movement. The rising DJ/Producer and Sound Engineer - signed to the likes of multiple labels such as Kindisch, Hoomidas Records and When We Dip XYZ - has established a respected reputation for his personalized blend of emotive grooves. His deft touch in the studio and adept curation have taken him across Canada, the US, and the Caribbean with performances at renowned events such as AIM Festival, Burning Man and SXM Festival.
At home, Mitch Oliver has taken on the mantle of driving the Montreal scene forward through his budding Aurora events and through vibrant residencies at the likes of StereoBar and Velvet.
