Last week I was given the opportunity to DJ my very first Yoga class. The nice folks of Commune Yoga wanted to celebrate their return to in person classes with a giant welcome back class featuring over 120+ yogis, live music, and taught by world renowned teacher Patrick Beach. 

This presented a unique challenge of reading a crowd, only instead of dancing,  they were flowing through movements and poses.  There was some ups and downs, mic interferences, beatmatching struggles,  and lots of volume balancing issues... but like yoga class, I stuck with it and kept breathing.

I was given the opportunity to play alongside Cri and Ben Bohmer at my favorite venue in Seattle, the Showbox Market. It's been a bucket list venue to play ever since I decided to pursue this lofty music dream.  I was extremely nervous.  The crowd was the biggest I've ever played for, and I wasn't sure if they'd vibe to downtempo, but by the end of the set they called out for an encore song which has never happened to me before. You can imagine I was all smiles after this one  :) Enjoy.

Last Gentleman On Playa is back on his home record label, It's Good To Be A Tree, with a delightful organic house release, which also features remixes by Betelgeize and Waxwood.

Well known as a Burning Man regular, Last Gentleman On Playa is a respected producer and well-travelled DJ. His innovative mid-tempo style combines charming melodies and organic sounds with tribal drums.

The EP's title track, "Bagus" has mystical flutes and vocals about aboriginal cultures layered over a chugging synth bass with acid tones. Betelgeize's remix of "Bagus" lifts the tempo and works in some melodic pads to create an uplifting version. Waxwood adds some funk to his version with a new bassline that is layered with a jazz piano and vocal sample about blues music. "Opagundes" is a downtempo track with metallic percussion and a psychedelic bassline laying a foundation for bleeping synths. "Nanuka" is the track that features Valique, and it is a soothing track with deep pads and a trippy flute at the heart of its swirling groove.

Premiere: Sydney Seymour - La La Land ✦ [MuMa]

For our 6th Episode we got Samaha! 

Anthony Samaha's journey into the music world all started when he bought his first MIDI keyboard and software in college. Fast forward 3 years, and he has established himself in the city of Seattle as a resident DJ at Foundation nightclub.
Having started out in the trance scene, he managed to release a few originals under his Alias, Cartographer, as well as playing a handful of opening gigs for world class Artists at both clubs as well as festivals in Washington.

In this past  year, his sound and taste in music has shifted into the darker, worldly sounds of techno and deep house. He started a weekly mix series called LOST that showcases his skills as both a dj and a curator of forward thinking music. 
He is also planning to release some original music in the coming months.

Welcome back to the Magician On Duty Journey Series!

On this week's editions we welcome @samahaofficial

Far up in the Pacific Northwest, beneath the grey rain clouds, lives a magician by the name of Samaha.

His goal is to tell a story with his DJ mixes, to paint a picture with sounds, and to guide you through a journey with lush melodies, cool breezy ambiances, and hard hitting earthy drums.

We were curious about the intro poem, so he shared his thoughts behind it:

"When I was approached with the idea to be a guest mixer on Magician On Duty, I wanted to make something extra special. This was one of the first podcast/dj series that I was instantly hooked on. I loved how each mix told a story, was magical and deep, and of course, the art was really cool. I wanted mine to stand out but wasn't sure how. It was a full moon here in Seattle and I was listening to a track called Ausencia De Rio con Luna and it hit me... maybe I'll make a mix with the moon in mind... maybe a story involving a magician and the moon....

This got me brainstorming, so I came up with a neat poem idea. I had some help from Ellie McLaurin, a friend here in Seattle. (Literature and English was never my strong suit in school). This became the basis of the mix. I hope you enjoy this tale of the Magician and the Moon."
