02 Fly Away - Lenny Kravitz (SunSquabi Remix)

My mom used to play Elton John’s music all the time. I grew up on it. His songs played a large part of my musical childhood. In fact, I’m told that the first song I ever sang was, “B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets.” Having not listened to much of Elton’s music in recent years, I found myself truly inspired having gone to see the movie, Rocketman. The music brought back intense feelings from both my childhood and where I find myself in the present moment. I immediately went into the studio and started work on this remix.

As a musician, I’ve always related deeply to the original song which was inspired by the 1951 science fiction short, The Rocket Man, by Ray Bradbury. The story depicts the complex relationship between technology and psychology, and in particular, an astronaut's love of the stars. A man ventures into space for three months at a time and returns to earth for only a few short days to see his wife and son, deeply torn between his love of space and his family. The song imagines what his long adventures, while filled with loneliness, would be like. I've always viewed this as a metaphor for the life of an artist. 

This remix makes a great precursor to the release of my next full-length album, Setting Fire To The Stars. (Coming this fall). It's a sci-fi themed record that vibes on the darker side of our feelings. Thoughts of anxiety, depression, loneliness, and social isolation are recurring ideas in both the lyrics and music found on this album. Subjects that many of us are all too familiar with. 

So here's my remix of Rocket Man for you. I hope you catch a new vibe off my interpretation of the original classic.

Give Me One Reason (Manic Focus Remix) - Tracy Chapman

A DJ for over 20 years, Deepshine continues to push the boundaries of mixing musical styles. His album of original productions, “Four Years” (2003) is a culmination of turntablism, deep house grooves, funk laden hiphop, and ambient dub that is sure to appeal to wide audiences and take the chill experience to a new level. Perfect at the beginning of the night, long road trips, or just reading the Sunday Times, “Four Years” just fits.

Deepshine cut his teeth spinning hiphop and dancehall reggae in the late 80′s and early 90′s, starting in clubs and radio in Worcester, MA. He extended his radio background by producing and co-hosting the popular OldYist Radio, an internet radio show on Groovefactory.com, from 2000-2004, and then independently broadcast through 2008.
As the DJ of the 7 piece funk/jam outfit Chronicle in the late 90′s, he was one of the first artists on Audiogalaxy.com and was featured on the 1st AG compilation CD. In addition to the stint in Chronicle, Deepshine (under various pseudonyms) has played to crowds at the Wonder Bar, Copperfield’s, The Enormous Room, Atmosphere, the Lizard Lounge, and countless other Boston bars and clubs.

Hooking up with the NightVision and Movement Radio crew, Deep is currently producing his own Internet based radio show entitled “Deep’s Love Handles.” DLH subscribes to no particular genre of music, but instead reflects Deep’s wide variety of tastes and influences. Rooted strongly in old skool hiphop and underground house, DLH also wanders into the realms of the acoustic singer/songwriter, indie rock, emo schlock, and riddim driven dancehall.

Deepshine continues to expand musically and has produced numerous “white-label” remixes of popular music, as well as for artists such as Regenerated Headpiece and Godboxer.

He is also part of the underground electronic-pop-rock duo The Lower Mills, whose first single is entitled "Thirsty (Deepshine's Dub)"
