Q. How would you describe yourself?

Brandon: Light hearted, reserved and a deep thinker. 

Craig: Crazy, sexy, cool. 

Q. How long have you been a part of the NY music scene?

B: I’ve been a part of the scene since I was a teenager, well before I was legally allowed to be in a night club. I’m still discovering so much about our music scene; we have such a rich history. 

C: We’re both born and raised here so it’s like we’ve always been part of this scene. In and out of record shops pre-teenage years and sneaking into the clubs by 16/17. 

B: I also feel so fortunate for the community here in NYC. There really aren’t any other states in the U.S. that have a scene as vibrant and thriving as ours!

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.

B: We took a spontaneous approach when we recorded the mix. Craig would play a record,  and I would feed off of that energy when deciding what to play next. It’s similar to how we play live. Nothings’ rehearsed and the music selection is unconstrained. 

C: The mix is a good example of some of the sounds you may hear at the party we throw. Hour long sets can be tricky to encapsulate the entire mood in such a short time, but we try our best to let the mix sonically speak for itself.

Marco Weibel is the epitome of modesty. Over the past decade, the New York artist has quietly amassed a loyal following through expansive DJ sets that touch on everything from spiritual jazz to disco, but rather than credit himself, he lets the tunes speak for themselves. This humble attitude has won him the respect of veterans such as Lefto, as well as a growing fanbase from all corners of the musical spectrum.

When he's not DJing, Weibel curates nights at various New York venues and co-runs Darker Than Wax, a label based out of Singapore (where he was born and raised). His selections showcase rhythm and texture over drops, but he always has an arsenal of radiant house cuts or UK garage to fire up a crowd. Cavernous crates aside, the cadence of his sets is perhaps their most distinguishing feature. On his weekly shows at Lot Radio, Hawaiian funk is followed by broken beat while at the club, 2-step spills into dembow techno and rich amapiano.

While his mixes and performances usually start out on the melodic side, his RA Podcast switches things up. Unleashing a whirlwind of jungle before moving onto '90s-flavored house and other loopy styles, his session highlights local talents with plenty of delightful transitions throughout. Peter Brown's spacey soul flows into Aquarian's pulverising breaks, Ayesha's percussive techno precedes heart-tugging house and heavy dub morphs into Kerri Chandler's acid. Fluid and rolling, this is a true digger's delight.

Tee Marie, who goes by THEYTEE and uses they/them pronouns, is a Black-Indigenous non-binary queer from Los Angeles. Growing up they were heavily influenced by their brother and sister raving in the late 90s. From the rave flyers, fashion, and dancing, they still thank their siblings frequently. Tee’s love for dance music quickly grew and as they got older found the sounds that they love and the sounds that make them groove. Dance music is an expression of self and freedom, and that's what they love about it. From chicago house, detroit techno, acid house, and so on dance music has their heart forever. Tee has a lot of love for the community and when they aren't DJing they are running their harm reduction booth Rave Safe LA.

Hailing from the vibrant city of Rotterdam, Suze Ijó @suze_ijo is a lover of all genres & rhythms. She’s been invested in music for years — both with DJing as with working behind the scenes, having been active behind club nights at Rotterdam’s club, Bird and now working behind the counter at Clone Records. Her style goes from anything between jazz and techno, with a certain warmth and soul being the constant factor.  

The memory of celebrating summer as we used to hangs suspended in the air as we reimagine ways of listening and dancing amidst a new reality that has dawned in the last few months. This memory sits with us worldwide, as we feel the void of a crowded dance floor, sound system and most of all each other. Despite this void, it is important to continue to make space for these moments of release as a form of self care and joy. Having taken the time to allow for reflection and respite, we wanted to share this reminder as we are proud to present a new installment by Suze Ijo. Her delicately woven selections evoke a more contemplative approach to the wide spectrum of what deep house can be, creating the soundtrack for whatever feels right at this moment.
