Those lockdown silver linings continue to reveal themselves when we least expect it… As proved, once again, by the inimitable Amsterdam techno HQ Deeptrax as they present this stunning analog exploration from scene stalwart Mark Peeters AKA Caim. 

Inspired, created and sculpted during those strange times when none of us could rave, Caim simply describes the moment by saying the “clubs were closed, but creativity kept on floating”… Now that floatation is bequeathed to us through these warm, rolling and wide-armed frequencies. Tapping into a spirit that goes right back to Detroit and Chicago, there’s an understated groovemanship at play as Calm jams out on the same instruments house and techno forefathers used to sculpt this culture. 

Music to get lost inside of, music to take away the stresses of the day, music that’s a joy to mix, weave and tell stories with… Caim has created another timeless collection of grooves that could resonate with or relate to any period in the last 35 years of dance music culture. 

From the warm, opening rumbles of ‘Nepi’ to closing rippling dubwise echoes of ‘Kapura’, very few stones are left unturned as Caim tells a tale of the ages that we can all float to. Here’s to silver linings.

This story takes place around the year 3216, in which space travel is something completely contemporary. Humanity is going too far in pushing Mother Nature's boundaries, and now the planet is in danger. Only one person is capable of saving Earth from destruction. Our protagonist travels to other planets to see if there is anything that can aid him in calling the downfall of our home world to a halt. The fragments on this disc are actually snapshots, made in between traveling, amid the rushing realization that a resolution to save the planet must be found. Quickly. DJ Surgeles has a longstanding professional relationship with Detroit legend Jeff Mills. Connected through music, DJ Surgeles learned the insides and tricks of Jeff. Many conversations and meetings over the years led to this new concept, The Escape Velocity. DJ Surgeles has also collaborated exclusively with Jeff Mills on the concepts Something in The Sky and STRMRKD, and produced a special Axis Records 10 year anniversary release, The Bells: DJ Mix back in 2007. I wanna thank Jeff Mills for making this album happen.

From New Jersey via The Netherlands: longstanding US craftsman Joey Anderson makes his debut on Deeptrax with his inspiring new album… ‘Exotic Sequence’ 

His fourth LP to date, ‘Exotic Sequence’ is a fully instrumental deep dive into both Joey’s machines and mindset, as he explains himself… “The title ‘Exotic Sequence’ stood out to me because throughout the LP I tended to use a sequencer for the main melody of most of the tracks. Almost every time I approach a track with techno intentions it eventually ends up being deep / housey,” states the artist who broke through 15 years ago on Qu’s Strength Music and has worked closely with the likes of Dekmantel and, more recently, Avenue 66.  

Now at home on the relatively new and positively thriving label arm of Dutch record store institution Deeptrax, Joey tells us where he’s at with a body of work that poignantly reminds us that it’s not the destination that counts; it’s the journey we endure to get there.

In this sense, ‘Exotic Sequence’ is the sound of Joey letting his instruments guide, inform and inspire him. Cuts like the constantly rising and hopeful ‘Sky Children’, the deep 808 bubbles and dreamy reflections of ‘Behind The Valley’ and the emotionally rich ‘Stop’ are just a handful of examples of  Joey being lost in deep flow, channeling the creative energy in his studio. 

It lands exactly three years after his last album ‘Rainbow Doll’, neatly bookending the strangest and most surreal start to any decade we’ve lived through since house and techno culture took root in the 80s. A timeless document that looks forward and back and remains unhurried, thoughtful and crafted with longevity, ‘Exotic Sequence’ is arguably the most honest and frank side to Joey Anderson we’ve heard in his extensive career so far.

Fachwerk boss Mike Denhert rolls up on TECH-UM 006 with for another heavy selection of intuitive techno jams on his 'TESTET' EP. With the focus squarely on the dance floor the Berlin-born wizard's latest creations makes for another unique voyage into cutting edge techno.

Kostik with its dark wall of sound opens the release sporting an gargantuan bassline and metronomic percussion that resonates through the speakers. Freakin' Me offers a slow and low machine funk strut, with its heads-down groove and sassy vocal chops.

On the flip Mike hits out hard with Mino. A heady concoction that's one part Chicago, one part Detroit, one part Berlin, coming together to create the perfect party piece. Dehnert then closes with one final gem. Sampling a broken escalator from a NYC train station, he engineers layer upon layer of mechanical madness. Creative clanging. Welding sounds and strikes like a vibrating visionary, he presents a final silvery sonic sensation.

During ADE, Aleks @ Breakfast Club (Deeptrax, Natural Sciences) astounded us with his deep live-set, full of sonic pleasures and mind blowing acid lines.  Aleks played alongside DVS1 and Levon Vincent and made us as Deeptrax proud with his next level dancefloor deepness. Doing it all live, hardware only, with booming breakbeats, deeper analogue beats and lo-fi sounds, building it slowly into one big manic party, setting the massive club "Radion" in aural flames.

With this one-take-recorded vinyl DJ set Aleks shows besides his ultimate live skills that he's a great DJ too with influences from the likes of Jay Daniel, Roger 23, Greg Beato, Omar S and labels as Sex Tags towards Chicago Skyway and Chicago's finest producers Steve Poindexter, Armando & the legendary Mike Dunn. When I'm recording mix, I do not try to tell some kind of deep storytelling. More likely I try to mix up different sub-genres of acid based house music from early 90's till nowaday releases. If we would talk about what I'm producing, then I could tell some stories behind those tracks haha!

For example: third track of my "Synthtetic Pastime" EP named B25 is with a story about a girl who wanted to try LSD for the first time in her life, sadly that wasn't what it supposed to be. It was some kind of replacement called B25 and she had the baddest trip in her life which ended up being in anxiety. By the storytelling of a girl you can hear that track is going from kinda happy music to rough and hard acid music, like the trip that girl had.
