Haramik is a Yerevan-based queer activist and DJ. After recognizing the dire need for queer nights and safe-spaces in their city, and inspired by “Paris is Burning”, they founded “Princess Dia- ries” - the first openly queer electronic music event in Yerevan. Their sets are a reflection of their love and passion for music, transmuted so- cially as they create hyper-groovy beats that leave you moving non-stop in the midst of dim strobes, thumping beats, and a hazy and dream- like atmosphere.

About Track:
"Baharan Khojasteh Bad” or “Blessed Spring" is the name of one of the first and one of the most famous revolutionary hymns that was broadcast on Iranian radio and television after the 1979 revolution and the fall of the imperial system (Pahlavi regime) in commemoration of the anniversary of the return of Khomeini to Iran. During the first 40 days following the death of Mahsa Amini on September 16th 2022 many hymns and revolutionary songs were written in support of the uprising and the Woman, Life, Freedom movement that called for a revolution against the islamic regime and the end of gender apartheid and freedom. One of these songs was a cover of "Baharan Khojasteh Bad" which conserved the melody but changed the lyrics to chant the names of the girl's like Mahsa Amini and Nika Shakarami who's tragic death symbolize the true fascist and myogenic face of the regime. The new cover also chants the name of Vida Movahed who sparked anti-hijab protests in Iran in 2018 by waving her white scarf like a flag. I fell in love with this cover because not only did it honor the young girls and women who were at the forefront of this revolution but it also put a hand on the 1979 revolution which was hiijacked from it’s democratic course to reappropriate it. So I chose to work this song and named it “Be Mahsa, Be Nika” which means “In the name of Mahsa, in the name of Nika”.This revolution is accompanied by horrific acts of violence and torture on behalf of the Iranian regime, the news of which we follow on social media everyday. I thought it necessary to make a track to honour the bravery of the iranian people who are fighting this regime and fuel it with powerful and uplifting energy. It deliberately sounds as if I m singing through a megaphone during a protest. Something simple and innocent about the beat keeps it light. Only with light can we defy this darkness… Woman, Life, Freedom.

Apranik Recordings is a collaborative project between Nesa Azadikhah and AIDA.

WOMEN LIFE FREEDOM [DEES-WLF] is a special charity project curated by Deestricted & Aida Arko, including many Iranian artists, that will be released on the International Women's Day, the 8th of March. It has been created to collect money for WOMAN, LIFE, FREEDOM (link in bio) and most importantly to shed light on the current situation of Iran and raise awareness & support the Women in Iran from our scene!

“Woman, Life, Freedom” is a popular political Kurdish slogan and an association that supports global actions in solidarity with Iranian women.

The use of the slogan "Woman, Life, Freedom" in Iran goes back to the series of protests following the death of Mahsa Amini. The slogan was first chanted at her funeral in Saqqez and then was heard in the initial protests in Sanandaj.

Iran is facing the first ever women revolution in its history, started by the death of Mahsa Amini on September 16th 2022. Ever since then people in Iran have shown tremendous acts of bravery risking their lives on the streets, fighting their violent dictator regime, seeking basic human rights and freedom.

By now the regime has responded to the protesters with pure cruelty. Thousands have been arrested or killed, disappeared having critical medical conditions, brutally tortured in jails and sentenced to the death penalty without any court cases or support from the international organizations!
A nation of 8 million citizens & over 4000 years of history needs our international support right now.

This is the goal of this special release that would be supported from a charity event will happen in Berlin 7th of March at @about.blank.berlin with help of amazing local and a massive representation of Iranian all FLINTA djs.
All profits will be donated to the organization helping women in Iran with the ongoing revolution.

Anahita Shamsaei is an underground Techno DJ and founder of the Makaan collective based in London. Makaan is a collective and space for SWANA+ artists to deliver unfiltered Techno music with absolutely no apologies. "As with all Makaan parties, we shine a light on parts of the world that are often misrepresented, under-represented or forgotten completely. In my view dance music is a universal language so there should be no barriers for anyone"
Anahita was born in Sheffield/UK and grew up in Tehran/Iran. She has a degree in Islamic history and Middle Eastern studies from School of Oriental and African studies (SOAS). Music has always been a crucial part of her life, and her love for Techno, led her to teach herself everything she knows about this genre of music as well as developing her DJing skills.
"I have always loved Techno music as I believe Techno is so inclusive, comparatively less misogynistic and relatable for people regardless of their background. It has been my safe space. I taught myself how to DJ in my bedroom in Iran and I used to play along with my friends in underground parties in Tehran/ Iran. My brain always syncs with Techno music; therefore, I see my set mixes as manifestation of my brain process.”
"As I developed my love for techno music. I began to see music's ability to fight patriarchal discourse present in today's society. I play regularly in different clubs across Europe. The mere fact of my presence in these clubs means that women of colour can and should be seen in these confiscated spaces. The nature of these events is not just music; it is the cry for our existence that will be heard virtually and physically all over the world. When it comes to performing, perhaps a male artist comes to everyone's mind, and even if they think of a woman, it is probably not a woman of colour. With the Makaan collective, I announce that SWANA+ women are also present in the world of music, that they exist. They are women who are considered coloured in Europe and the United States or elsewhere, and in a way, endure the burden of being in a triple minority: being a woman, being Iranian, and being coloured."
