Having made his debut on 8 Sided Dice in August 2010, Chris Colburn has followed up on an impressive start with two further EP’s of purposeful techno that sit perfectly in amongst the musical blueprint set out by Alan Fitzpatrick’s own trademark sound.
Chris’ EP’s ‘Stone Town’, ‘Funny Trix’ and ‘Spannered’ have confirming Chris as a core member of the 8 Sided Dice roster and have received high praise from the likes of Luke Slater, The Advent and Cari Lekebusch amongst others who are all expectant to hear the next heavy and relentless full-force tribal banger that comes out of Chris’ studio.

Gravity are happy to bring you Chris Colburn for their second event to hit the capital of Scotland. Chris Colburn has seen a sharp rise to fame in the last few years with his upfront and dominating techno, currently releasing his tracks under Alan Fitzpatrick's label, 8 Sided Dice Recordings. Wreck it out and lesbian landlady are to name but just a few of his releases.

Chris has been so kind to put this mix together ahead of his appearance at Gravity, an Edinburgh based nightclub that likes to push it boundaries on the music scene and is known for introducing new local talent to it second room.  to find out more about Gravity follow the link.

I had the extreme pleasure to do the guest mix at Edinburgh Rocks Radio Show prior to my appearance at Gravity on the 26th Oct, i hope you all enjoy and as always all comments are welcome.

Just a little mix to wet the mouths of all my fans and to give you a little taste of what to expect at our next Gravity night with the Legendary Dave Angel.  We will be celebrating 25 years of Dave Angel, who will be plating some of his best tunes over the years including some of his own right up to the present day.

Deetec was born in Edinburgh in 1975, his love for music comes from his parents and extended family, he came from a family of established disco DJs (back in the day) and rap artists. His love for dance music, techno in particular was born during the 80s when he listened to his mums high energy tunes and bands like Depeche mode, Eurythmics and New Order.

During the early 90s he would swap mix tapes with his friends that they recorded from pirate radio stations. However, Edinburgh and Scotland at that time only had a limited number of stations, so it was a great treat when he would get mixes from London. The main names coming out from London at that time were Dave Angel, Groove rider and Carl Cox.

At the age of 15 and 16 he attended his first rave at the Hacienda in Glasgow (not to be confused with the Hacienda in Madchester), it was an established club that ran for years with the main DJ spots being taken up by DJ Mark Smith. Each week he would run the risk of not getting in for being under age and a series of fake ID's had to be produced or re-produced when the last one was confiscated.

It was at this time when one of his friends (Troy Curren) got his first set of Technics 1200s and from then on most of his time was spent at his house playing his favourite tunes and practicing the skills required to become a good DJ. Week in and week out he would watch Mark Smith do his thing on the decks and try to copy what he saw during the week. About a year later he saved every bit of money he had to buy his own set of Techincs 1210s, which he still has to this day.

A big part of his music has to be credited to his friend and pure legend Dave Angel, at an early age Deetec and his friends would travel the length of the country just to go and support Dave and in time got to know him, Deetec still remains good friends with Dave Angel and visits his studio (Rotation Records) a few times a year and hopes to complete a remix of one of Dave's tunes in the near future. At this time Deetec continues to work hard in the studio and pushing the boundaries of his music, so watch this space and be part of the future.
