Joseph S Joyce - Random In Toulouse - Default Position Podcast 004

Default Position welcomes Ukrainian-born DJ producer Andrey Sirotkin to the label - with his debut deep techno EP, 'Dusk'. 

As a seasoned music maker Sirotkin brings a wealth of experience, having produced several genres - from deep house and dub techno to drum and bass and dubstep under his alias I Wannabe.  

Sirotkin's latest four-track EP transports the listener into a spooky dark underworld, with its moody, acid-esque basslines, haunting pads, and mesmerising percussive melodies. 'In Ukraine, we have this trend of hard banging music', says Sirotkin. 'Some people have difficulty appreciating deeper grooves' So with 'Dusk' it was about making something that could be experienced in more spiritual ways. It's for people who are maybe not into the hard dance experience but still love electronic music.

Dusk releases on September 12, 2022. All proceeds will be donated to Red Cross Ukraine.

Giacomo Pellegrino: 
DJ, Producer and Remixer. Owner of Detroit Side Underground Vinyl-Only Records Label. Giacomo Pellegrino is part of that particular category of people that really knows very well the meaning of the word passion. He started djing when he was only fourteen. Son of a musician, following his father around to every concert, visiting the most important clubs and venues of Sicily. Thanks to that experience, he developed a true passion for music and clubbing and, later, for djing. Despite still being too young to perform at night as a DJ, Giacomo started to arrange a few shows for friends, playing sets focused on dance music from the 70’s and the 80’s, his first musical love. A few years later, his style became a “monolith” of dance and funk, house and tech. Giacomo has his hand in every aspect of the music scene.

He also founded his own record label called Detroit Side, which is dedicated to the very passionate vinyl and DJ community. A label that promotes quality over quantity in the house and techno segment.

Default Position is a London/Berlin-based record label founded by Joseph S Joyce which specialises in emotive forms of electronic music. The label gets its name from a term that is widely used in psychology, referring to a person's natural tendency or reaction to something or someone. A person's default position is often based on deeply embedded core beliefs about themselves or the world around them, often originating from childhood. Many of us will have to challenge our default positions in life, especially if we've developed negative ones. In terms of creativity, however, we believe that the default position serves something of great value. We believe it represents an artist's fundamental frequency, a place of creative authenticity, devoid of external influences or material motive. When an artist's output comes from their default position they express their truth. Our aim is to help them deliver their message.
