It begins with a dreamy electro-acoustic entry into a psychedelic dream set to an alt funk indie rock soundtrack. The big bass sets a cool groove for the dreamy vocals and the build to the rocking break at :52. The synth lead takes you deeper into the groovy dream, accented with ripping electric guitar (1:43) and driven along by the bass groove and thumping shufflin drum beat that’ll make ya want to bounce. Salsa Crackers is a salsa music inspired indie song with a rocking edge about going out dancing with your bae. A straight ahead rock combo accompanied by a latin percussionist lay down a danceable groove. A sizzling sparkly electric guitar provide the punchy staccato bursts that would traditionally be handled by a horn section. The bi-lingual lyrics capture the sort of Spanglish melange that is a part of the cultural fabric of where I live. The vocals make me think that’s how it might’ve sounded like if Elvis fronted a salsa band lol.  Its a fun danceable song that rocks! Enjoy!

Its a straight forward indie rock song that speaks to the common thread that runs through the lives and experiences of generations X,Y, and Z: how do we find our way in this new landscape when many of the old societal structures, systems, and beliefs are no longer relevant, useful, true, applicable, or reflective of the worlds we live in.

In Real Life is a fun song with an irresistible groove about the duality of our personas in digital realms like social media that allow us to present an image to the virtual world that is not necessarily who we are in real life. The idea came from the abbreviation IRL coming into the language to designate the distinction between real life and the virtual worlds we visit where we are not constrained or defined by who we are IRL.

A straight ahead indie/alt rock song. 2 guitars, bass and drums. I was listening to Toe (love them btw) and heard some interesting song structures. So it inspired me to create this song in which the acoustic guitar figures are the glue that holds the song together allowing the electric guitar, bass, and drums to be free and loose over the top of the core created by the acoustic guitar.  Traditionally the bass/drum rhythm section is the anchor, but this idea turns it upside down or maybe inside out. I laid down the acoustic guitar figures to a metronome tempo, Then just tracked the other instruments free and loose and fast and without a lot of messing around, drums, electric guitar, bass in that order.  Just cranked the guitar/bass amp and got a cool drive-y rock sound that I dig, just on the edge of really rattling the cabinet.  All analogue instruments, and amps mic'ed up with dynamic mics, except for Seagull acoustic guitar which just went through a little dbx tube pre-amp (just to warm it up a bit) then straight into the daw through a focusrite scarlett.  Let me know what you think of this master. Its not super easy to get transparency with all that analogue drive, but I think I'm close here.

DefiantButterfly's "The Night Brings Me Here" is a song about going out into the city and letting the night show you the way to go. When I wrote this song, it was about going down into the city, on and off the streets, in and out of the clubs, even with no particular destination in mind, just following where the night brings you. From the streets to the dance floor feel the pulse of the music and the vibrations of the city.  Turn this up, take a mind journey and and dance! There is also a parallel dream state interpretation of the song.

Indie artist defiantButterfly / introverts Dancing, is a south Florida based singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, recording artist that loves to rock and loves electronica and loves smashing them together! Some songs fit into genres, and sometimes genres get mashed up in the songs creating hybrids of new music. Real instruments, real singing, real music made by hand with love. No cutting and pasting of loops. No silly auto tune type robot voice filters that make anyone sound like everyone. 
As a boy, he acquired his first guitar after it was thrown out the window by a neighbor who was pissed off because he couldn’t play it worth a damn. When dB asked if he could keep the discarded guitar, the neighbor said, “You can ram it up your ass for all I care”.  dB declined to perform that action, but decided to learn how to play it instead. Soon after, an older kid from the neighborhood screeched his car to a halt, pulled a broken surfboard out of the back and tossed it to dB and his brother saying, “here punks, learn how to surf you little rats”, then screeched off in a cloud of tire smoke. dB and his brother decided that was an action they would perform. Those two discarded artists tools set dB on a path of adventure and creative expression that directed many of his life choices that were made in defiance of a status quo existence.  He was also a military kid that moved around the world constantly and never lived in one place for long. That upbringing made him a keen observer of the world and people. As dB says, “Not being a part of any particular scene or group allowed me to be open minded about pretty much everything. The ones that accepted and befriended me were of all different backgrounds, races, and identities and didn't care that I didn't fit in, they were the misfits also, they were open minded, so they understood.” That early life taught him to always see the world with fresh eyes, to stay open minded, to be adventurous, to seek out new ideas and experiences, to go his own way and find his own voice and song writing style. Now an accomplished musician and world traveler, dB continues to stay open to new ideas, experiences, people, art, and music. “I’ve learned that our lives are all so different, but we feel the same things. So, I write songs about feelings that everyone can relate to in a way that you can bring your own stories and life experiences to the songs and feel those things in a way that makes sense to you. My songs are for everyone, but especially for the misfits, the average joes and janes, the outsiders, the wall flowers, the introverts. They know how to rock, they’re the dreamers, the free thinkers, the ones looking for new ideas, new experiences, and new music. They’ve shown me they’re the coolest of all.”

The Name
"The idea of defiantButterfly as a name came as I was watching a butterfly make its way through the world on a windy day. As the strong winds swirled around, the butterfly was sometimes caught up in the headwinds and blown away from its intentions. In spite of the obstacles the world was throwing at it, the butterfly continued on its journey, making headway here, forced to go with the winds there. No matter which way it was moving, whether on its hoped for path or whilst being blown off course by the winds of fate, it was beautiful. The butterfly seemed to defy nature and logic. On the surface it seemed as if it was too fragile and beautiful to exists in this harsh environment, but it clearly had the strength and wherewithal continue its life dance despite the obstacles the world was throwing at it, and all the while it was beautiful. It struck me as kind of metaphor for artistic expression and what artists do. Our triumphs and struggles inspire us to create our art, then we throw it into the air and can only watch as it is taken by the winds of an indifferent world."
