As we re-enter with Vol. 7 of Meeting Of The Minds & I've got a very special set of tracks on this one.

Even though I've known Sully for a number of years now, we've never actually been able to work on a tune together, for no reason in particular. We've been supporting each other's music in that time & I've been a big fan of some of his music, especially the tunes on his label Uncertain Hour, his recent EP on Astrophonica & his collaborative EP with Kid Lib on Magic 3. But our paths have never really crossed musically, so I thought that this collaborations series would give me good reason to get in touch and work on something with him and the outcome of that is "Windswept".

A glossy rhythm breathes life into the old classic so that it becomes a new entity, which somehow welds together the murky rave realm with the weightlessness of Summer. It’s rare for tracks to suit any given setting, but this one might just be a strong contender.
 
‘Show Me Love’ takes a more starry-eyed course, weaving dewy textures into a fresh whimsical appeal. There’s still a subtle nod to the past despite the more recent Alicia/Miguel sample, which comes in the form of the 2010’s grime era melodies and nostalgic soundscapes. The breakdown around the halfway mark is a particular treat; it hoists up the vocals in reverence before the first of two ice-cold, dubby drops.

They say that if you’re paying homage to one of the greats, you’ve got to do it right. But Nikki Nair goes above and beyond that into a captivating alternate reality where the rush the second time round is just as good. These bootlegs are instant classics in themselves.

“Maul Rheo” appears to possess an amorphous body capable of self-repair and self-modification. Discovered in the ███████ Mountains. The entity exhibits a perpetual cycle of self-inflicted violence, leading to continuous destruction and reconstruction of its form. This cycle is believed to be a result of its original programming, its behavior suggests a programmed directive, compelling Maul Rheo to engage in intuitive violent behaviors. Body is composed of an unknown metallic alloy, showing properties of both high durability and malleability. An interaction between Ziyiz was recorded on ██/██/████. Ziyiz attempted communication with “Maul Rheo” using a series of synthesized electromagnetic propagations. This interaction led to a temporary cessation of “Maul Rheo’s” violent behavior, but it’s internal directives could not be dissuaded. Further research into the effects of acoustic frequencies and speculative technologies on programming is recommended.

Vief’s next fundraiser compilation, as voted for by the 14 contributors to the release, is raising money for Palestine Solidarity Campaign to aid their work in building public support for an end to atrocities currently taking place in Gaza.

Following the Hamas-led attack on Israel on 7th October 2023, the disproportionate response by the Israeli armed forces and government has led to (at the time of writing):

• At least 31,923 people killed, of which more than 13,000 are children (Al Jazeera)
• The destruction or damage of more than half of Gaza’s homes (360,000 residential units) (Al Jazeera).
• ‘Catastrophic’ levels of hunger for more than 1 million people and an ‘imminent’ famine in northern Gaza (the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification).

On 26th January 2024, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to take “immediate and effective measures” to protect Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip from the risk of genocide by ensuring sufficient humanitarian assistance and enabling basic services. Amnesty International and Oxfam have accused Israel of defying this ruling.

Break Cycle marks Fly By Night’s third release of 2020 with a heavy fusion of breaks & electro from up-and-coming artist Tom Place in a 3-track EP. Following his releases on Bade Records and Aloka’s Typeless, this year has marked an emergence for Tom as he further embellishes his recognisable brand of techno inspired electro. The EPs opener, Eight Five, is a heavy-hitting electro track featuring a rolling drum beat and an instantly recognisable vocal echoing throughout its’ inner realms. Followed up by its’ more spacey counterpart Break Cycle, a track which builds tension perfectly and exactly surmises what makes Tom’s production so exciting to listen out for right now.
