A great philosopher (Samuel Johnson, not Ebeneezer Goode) once wrote… “our brightest blazes of gladness are commonly kindled by unexpected sparks”. While it would be a stretch to suggest the Drumcode artist roster are closet philosophy fans, once one begins to unravel the tale that led to Jel Ford remixing the 2012 Alan Fitzpatrick hit ‘For An Endless Night’ and it is impossible to escape the unexpected enterprise and spirit of surprise that are at the heart of this exciting collaboration. 

As fans of Adam Beyer’s label will testify, the two Drumcode names have more in common than just a label stable, they also share common ground with the peak-time melodic sound that has delivered many of the labels most memorable output. Ford being a much more recent addition than Fitzpatrick, whose history with the seminal Swedish imprint stretches back to 2009, however Ford’s history within techno goes back even further having released multiple EP’s through the early noughties on vintage UK techno labels including Dave Angel’s Rotation Records, Billy Nasty’s Tortured Records, Primate Recordings and Ford’s own Jericho imprint. 

It is within this shared passion for uplifting synths and big room melodies that the ‘unexpected spark’ of creativity that led to Ford remixing Fitzpatrick can be found. An long-time admirer of Fitzpatrick’s work, Ford had developed an idea for his alternative version and secretly worked on the remix long before any discussion of the project had taken place. Once given the draft version, Fitzpatrick immediately endorsed the remix, excited to have an updated version to breath new life into what had become a familiar staple of his sets for the past two years. Parts were swapped and the end result being the barnstorming end-of-night monster presented here. A track that will be familiar with many having been the subject of much social-media furor since it first surfaced back in Autumn 2014.

Long-term brother of the label Matthias Tanzmann makes his full debut on Saved Records. And it is well and truly worth the wait. The German stalwart delivers a hedonistic two track EP that places distinctive bassline-led grooves at the centre of a sound that is bristling with personality, energy and adventure.
Despite the flat, thudding kick drum that announces the track, “No Sleep” immediately sets out its stall as a visceral tech groover with funky, tribal drums. By the time the simple yet deliriously fun bassline joins the party, the track is a completely derailed and unhinged slice of party atmospheres. Rapid-fire drum machines skitter across the top to fuel a dancefloor stamina that drives momentum forward.

“Sleazy Rider” is a deeper, weightier workout with ghetto bass as its backbone. Around the grumbling bass you have shuffling percussion, chopped up vocal FX and some wildly tumbling basslines that inject a sense of swing into proceedings. The power of the bottom end sweeps you up and pulls you along for the ride. Clearly in full on party mode, Tanzmann has once again become the facilitator of no sleep.

Dilby has been steady releasing on a handful of choice labels for some time now, and teams up with singer Benjamin FRNKLN , whose previous work with Butch, alongside a string of releases on Hot Creations and Cecile has earned himself a great recognition worldwide. The first track ‘Friends’ is proof, with a low-and-dirty bassline droning beneath a strong kick opening the show, the vocals slowly introduce themselves with great effect. The track slowly releases, keeping a consistent, high level of energy without overstepping. ‘Pacing the Halls’ follow a similar, but much darer vibe. The energy here takes it’s time, but worth the wait. Finally, ‘Sneaky One’ breaks down all the walls and opens the energy-floodgates. Immediately we are moved by the percussion and the slow rise of synths. With a strong techno flavor, the track proves itself to be super effective in pushing a crowd higher and further. We couldn’t be more happy with the package and are proud to share it with you.

First up is Millions Lives from G Plak feat. Chris Michael, which is a moody techno cut that's deep and involving. It sinks you into the rolling drums, then epic chords and the emo vocals all add to the effect. Who Likes Hawaii from Kinree & Den Maar is a scintillating melodic cut with keys dancing up above militant drums. Great synths and withering chords bring more colour and drama to this most artful bit of techno. Runov then offers Hedonism, a rolling, hypnotic cut with dreamy pads and vocals that gets you gazing off into the distance and Coppola's Boesendorffer is a late night roller with a killer bassline bubbling away beneath icy hi hats. Lastly, Swan from Alexandros Djkevingr & Greg Ignatovich Vs Bruce Leroys is a patient, slow burning cut with creeping atmospheres and futuristic techno grooves.
