The new single ‘Architecture’ by Glen Brady’s Post-Funk, Alt-Punk project Def Nettle sees the band veer beautifully close to their Gothic roots with reflections of Sisters of Mercy, The Cure and even a hint of early U2 or Irish heroes The Stunning but the overall sound stays fresh and modern with obvious inspirations to more post millennial groups like Bloc Party, Interpol or Klaxons. 

The  drums and bass have a serious and deliberate quality with soft melodic guitar touches and fierce distorted stabs making this a most forceful and direct follow up to their last single ‘War Machine’ which featured a mind blowing collab with The Smiths guitarist, Andy Rourke.

Vocally and lyrically, Brady is pushing further from his Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen-esque Irish-American drawl and telling a more deep and personal tale of pain and isolation seen through the perspective of an Autumnal 90’s Dublin, grey and austere but maintaining the vigor and rhythmic enthusiasm of that era with Madchester style dance rhythms a la established Dublin drummer, Jay Oglesby. As usual Brady has pulled in a plethora of storied musicians to flesh out his narrative with Graeme Slattery (The Devlins, A Boy In Cords) & Joe Donegan (Old School) on guitars, Sin Silver (Backing vocals) and San Francisco cult session bassist, Ely Siegel on the bottom end. This 3rd release from Glen Brady is an intense and brooding slice of the band’s self described Post-Funk that perfectly establishes Def Nettle in it’s first year of releasing music.
