ANY BPM Vol. 1 is a various artists compilation curated by Bristol collective and label excess, with all proceeds to be donated in support of the Music Venue Trust's #saveourvenues campaign - a charity providing aid to the UK's most vulnerable live music venues. Over 15 tracks, the project showcases a diverse range of underground dance music, featuring artists both established and unsigned from Bristol and beyond. 

TROPHY rounds out the record, with the Leeds-based producer and TRAX HAVEN alumnus delivering possibly the switch-up of the year (just wait) on "We Got" - a swaggering halftime rhythm that shows off low-slung, punchy drums and a well-executed wobbling bassline.

Following up his 2020 debut, TYPE returns to SweetBox with two fiery jungle cuts built on his Akai MPC X.

Known as the MPC Jedi, TYPE is the tech wiz behind the Tubedigga YouTube channel, where he serves up music production and sound design tutorials from his hoard of MPCs and other vintage and modern tech. As a hardware devotee, he performs live on MPC rather than DJing, and it was during one of these live sets, for the launch of his previous SweetBox EP in 2020, that Dexta and the Diffrent crew first heard ‘Cherry Bomb’ and ‘Eclipse’ and immediately snapped them up.

‘Cherry Bomb’ is a quintessential junglist workout, pushing a combination of four sampled and homemade breaks to their limits over an otherworldly sound bed. With kicks that land like a mortar strike and the explosive militancy of a supercharged drill sergeant, this one’s ideal for peak-time switch-ups and ready to send any dancefloor into a frenzy.

‘Eclipse’ shuffles and steps with the South London producer’s signature precision, though the percussion takes something of a backseat this time. Front and centre instead are an array of monstrous technoid rasps, elasticated subs and an LFO-esque, earworm bleep repurposed from TYPE’s days as a video game sound designer. This is heavyweight business screaming out for a dark room and a big rig.

Pre-order is live now ahead of release on digital and limited-edition 10” vinyl with hand-numbered, screen-printed sleeves on 25th March.

Coming at you straight from the centre of the universe, Doctor Jeep makes his debut on Hardcore Energy with the ‘VIP EP’. For this one, the Brazilian-American, Brooklyn-based DJ and producer has flipped three of his own productions, as well as teaming up with Cirrus for a brand new track. The result is 4 cutting edge club-ready bangers.

First up is ‘Vault of Glass VIP’ which builds on the dark and wobbly bassline, moody pads, and warbling synth FX of the original by adding snappier drums which bring a classic electro vibe to the track. Next up is a ravey rework of ‘Dissociate’ which is one of Doctor Jeep's most listened to tracks, this version abandons the halftime/dubstep flow of the original and goes all out 90s hardcore with punchy drum breaks, a bouncing bass line, and classic rave samples. The third track ‘Laff Trak VIP’ is a complete jungle flex out, with furious amens, a heavy low end, as well as the weird and wonderful alien FX from the original version. Last but not least is ‘No Water’, which sees Doctor Jeep and @CirrusDnB bring up the tempo slightly and lay down a rolling drum and bass banger with a morphing bassline, frenetic drum work and hyped up FX. This EP will have heads spinning with a slightly left field production but the tracks also pack more than enough dance energy to keep ravers moving until the morning.
