Sun People - Into The New EP / DEFR009

Since 2011, Simon Hafner aka Sun People from Graz has been merging footwork, juke, jungle and UK hardcore influences to create his own distinctive sound. With releases on labels like Exit, Alphacut, Rua Sound and Through These Eyes, he has made a name for himself in the international 160 bpm scene over the years. In addition to remix jobs and his own productions, Simon also pursues his musically eclectic vision on a highly rated four-weekly radio show on London's Sub.FM.

On his EP The Walls, released in 2020 on Defrostatica, he devoted himself to early Chicago house music as well as European proto-hardcore of the 80s and the turbo sound championed by the likes of Fracture, Itoa and BSN Posse.

In 2022, Sun People presents a refined version of high-speed breakbeat minimalism, drawing further from bleep, dub and even industrial techno, but still with optimistic depth. From the cold bleep-influenced opener Into The New to the jungle-tekno track Overtoom and the tribalism of State of Flux, Sun People builds its own hypnotic approach to captivate dancers. Amaterasu marks the soulful coda and gives us the opportunity to take a breath.
