Choose to Connect combines spoken word, rap and go-go music to take listeners on a tour of Washington, DC's Ward 7, a working class, predominantly African-American community east of the Anacostia River. It was created in 2009 for "Ward 7: A Community in Bloom" collaboration between the Ward 7 Arts Collaborative and the Washington National Opera, funded by the Humanities Council of Washington, DC. Deidre CreativeSoul used the oral histories provided by youth and elders in the community to inform this work, which is narrated by bus drivers on three main routes in the community: the W4, U8 and V7.
