Adrift In A Sea Of Birds 2017

This is the sound of the phylum-level bacterial microbe changes in the guts of three lemur babies as their diets progressed from birth through nursing, introductory solid foods, regular solid foods, and two phases of weaning. The stable adult phylum-level profile of the mother of this set of triplets provides the background hum as the babies' profiles ring out four times for each timeframe beginning with birth. There is an initial consonance and sparsity of tones that shifts to a more dense and dissonant relationship when solid foods are introduced. The profiles settle back to a level consonance by the final weaning. For clarity listen through headphones.

This is a wonderful example of a Nested Soundscape where the container is the great out of doors. Listen for birds, motors, voices, footsteps, driveby car stereo percussion, in addition to Eleanor Mills on The Bells, Susanne Romey on Native American flute, Jim Kellough on digital horn, dejacusse processing bell harmonics, water sounds, Lee Moore Crawford on paintbrush and cup, and oh yes the rumble of the wind in the microphone --ALL part of the Nested Soundscape.

This is the data profile for changes in the gut microbiome of baby lemurs from birth through nursing, intro of solid foods, regular solid foods, wean I and wean II. The changes in the phylum bacteria variety and density can be heard to build and blossom through first wean and come into final consonance with the mother's gut microbiome profile that drones underneath.Thanks to Dr. Erin McKenney, Microbial Ecologist at NCSU, for letting me practice data sonification with her study.

NeutRMAbeju Exploration

Eric Drass created a midi track which he based on the Covid-19 genome sequence published by the National Institute of Health on their website. Eric offered up his 2 hour stem, which is the complete genome of the virus at this time (Early March 2020)for remixing. Here is my remix based entirely on the stem. I started in the middle. The virus is serious and impish, rolling along, and you are ready for it to be over before it actually ends.
