Journey to the Light

This trumpet and piano instrumental version was done back in April 2021. I always loved the way Joe Cocker did this song - so loving and gentle. I think we all have or had someone special who we think of in this way. That they are so beautiful to you. I did the trumpet part but the piano arrangement and playing was done by Doug MacKenzie from Australia. A true genius on the piano. Written by Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher

"Missing" is a quiet ballad featuring the double reed English Horn [Cor Anglais] and piano. It's origins were probably somewhere in the middle east. For those who don't know what an English Horn is, i would describe it as an Oboe with a lower range and possibly a fuller sound than the Oboe. It has a round bell on the bottom of the instrument which differentiates it from the Oboe.

The song, We Will Meet Again, was written by the great jazz pianist Bill Evans in 1979. The trumpet part is more or less improvised primarily around the improvised piano arrangement.

We Will Meet Again was Evans's last studio recording. Dedicated to his brother Harry who died prematurely. Piano/bass arrangement and performance by Australian jazz pianist Doug McKenzie. An amazing arrangement!

I wrote "Restoration of Hope" in February of 2023 after the pandemic had subsided. The first totally original piece since March 2020. I think the world is sadly in a much worse state now in 2023 and that is what i would like to change for the better. Hence the title of hope.

Before the pandemic i did mostly original compositions but that all dried up starting in 2020. So when life gives you lemons you make lemonade and I did a whole series of Trumpet/piano covers that were at the very least improvised and interpreted. You have likely heard some of them.

I hope you enjoy this as much as i did writing it after such a long creative drought. Thanks you for listening. Headphones or a good stereo is always recommended!

Restoration of Hope Del Carry 2023

This is a totally improvised piece starting out on piano with the soprano sax, bass and drums added one track at a time. Pretty well first takes for the piano and sax.

Remembering • Classical

They say "Music is the flower of feeling." This must have been what happened to me 10 years after the horrible events in NYC, Sept 11th 2001. This music just came out naturally on the very day of the Sept 11th anniversary. The music starts out very dark and then eventually finds a renewed purpose and direction. Although i am not a citizen of the USA, i do live fairly close to New York State and could certainly feel for the people who were directly affected and for the country as a whole.

Del Carry • The UnExpected [For the 10th Anniversary of Sept 11]

This is a piece i wrote for trumpet, piano, bass and drums. It is very slow so you cannot be in the mood for an upbeat piece when listening to this. The song is about letting go of something that we have held very dear but now must give it up. The trumpet is played on an Akai EWI USB wind controller using the Sample Modeling Trumpet. All the other instruments were done on a midi keyboard. Enjoy!

Forever Goodbye - Jazz Trumpet

Recorded December 1, 2015. This is a bit of a departure for me into a more of an R and B and Smooth Jazz genre - it is a lot of fun - i have done several more in this style and will post later. The guitar solo was done live on a Yamaha nylon string guitar and the tenor sax was done pretty well in one take with an EWI wind controller using the sample modelling tenor Mr T. The B3 Hammond organ was added near the end. I  have always been a bit of a B3 organ player wannabe!

This is an instrumental piece featuring piano, Gibson SG electric guitar and alto saxophone.

The film music composition, "These Ruinous Wars" is an original and was done as a film music cue. The tone of the piece lent itself to a more tribal, medieval type of warfare and all the pain and suffering that goes with it. As they say, war is started by old men and fought by young men.

I don't usually do covers preferring to compose my own pieces but i could not resist doing this song, written by George Gershwin as part of the musical opera Porgy and Bess in 1934. Billie Holliday turned it into a #12 pop hit in 1936.

A friend of a friend who i have never met, Sandra, [she is on Soundcloud as well] sent me some of her songs recently. A wonderful piano player i might add, so i put some trumpet/flugelhorn on top and this is how one of my favourite more contemporary Christmas songs turned out.

Christmas Time Is Here

2020: Retrospective: This is an instrumental piece with piano, trumpet and bassoon that I composed at the beginning of December 2020 which eventually got lost in the Christmas season. In hindsight, I then realized it was a bit of a musical expression retrospective of the past year. A time to reflect on the many things that needed change in the world but also swimming in the murkiness, the crazy ups and downs, grief and loss of what was left of a very uncertain future. 

For all of you who have not taken down your Christmas tree or turned off your Christmas lights yet (you know who you are! :) there is a little Canadiana surprise gift at the very end, just for you. :)

Del Carry is a composer and musician who plays contemporary classical, film music, jazz and some rock and blues.
